Gryphon Diablo 333 and Gryphon Eos 5 makes North America show debut Axpona 2024

This is so NOT a need based hobby.

Truer words were never said.

Everything about audio playback (and any other hobby really) are luxury purchases and need to be treated as a gamblers bet.

If you cant afford to lose it then don’t bet it.

I would offer it depends on the context. If the question is “is this something I feel I need to enhance or elevate my own system”, then the question of need has validity. I suspect that’s the context for most audiophiles when such a question arises.

The Bacch is limited to 96/24 I believe. I know it doesn’t do DSD. So if I were an audio consultant I would recommend MU2 based on your listening preferences. With MU2 you may prefer it to the Levinson and BHK preamp. The DAC is excellent! Streamer and core built in what’s not to love?

Bah… I had to miss axpona as I’m in Florida. Unbelieveable where prices have gone. My not so old Maggie 20.7s were purchased for 14.5k with cherry rails. They are now over 30k. Did anyone hear the maggie 2.7x? Or any other of their displays? Any impressions ? And dang that Diablo looks nice.

I only heard the LRS+ which sound great IMO. I wish I had a place or need for them.

And yes the Diablo 333 is the real deal!

I heard the original LRS and thought the same. Like do I need a second system somewhere? :grinning:

I saw the aspen series online. They sounded phenomenal. They got the stand mounts down to 35hz??

I can’t live with that, LOL

When I was in the Gryphon room on Sunday, a Stereophile Photographer entered the room and brought some good lighting into the room. I took advantage of the good lighting opportunity and snapped a few higher quality photos…

Maggie 2.7X was to be at Axpona, Glenn Poor’s, but unfortunately logistics prevented their presentation. Was to be powered by Luxman 509Z.

Magnepan 2.7x.

A pair of 2.7i were in the Magnepan room on the 3rd floor

The 2.7i still in the Maggie line has been supplemented with the Maggie 2.7x. It would have been nice to be able to compare the two at Axpona.

I was not happy with the amplification driving the 2.7i. Would have sounded better with the Luxman

Do you recall what it was?
BTW, you have aroused my curiosity to the point I may consider a follow-u trip to Champaign to do an evaluation of the Maggies, Luxman 509z and Playback Design MPD-8. Assuming they are available at Glenn Poors.

I’ve been reading the BAACH thread from the beginning but not closely. I failed to remember the DSD limitation. That’s not so good for me. That probably shifts the BAACH down to the bottom of the wish list.

96k is the limit. I dont think the mac mini has enough guts to process anything higher resolution. I dont have any proof of that but is seems logical to me.

I haven’t checked yet to see if when you bypass the BACCH it passes the DSD signal thru as is.

I know that the BACCH is NOT limited to 24.96. But Edgar doesn’t believe anything higher makes a significant sonic difference. In my use of his gear I don’t disagree.

With a button press I can listen to DSD256 through the MU2. Another press and I can listen through the BACCH. I do favor the BACCH. YMMV.

Good to know!

The MPD-8 is also a DSD based machine so I can use either one.

My appointment with the Guru is tomorrow afternoon.
So far so good though. The automation of the process is worth the price of admission for me.

Between OCD, ADD, early onset and vision problems I need less choices and switches to consider.

BACCH on = good
BACCH bypass = also good

Life is good.

I’m assuming he’s using current Mini’s so I would think the M2 processor would be more than up to the task.

I’m not in a position to argue, but to go to 24/192 shouldn’t be much of a leap (so says he who knows nothing about how BAACH does it’s thing …). Doing DSD may be a much bigger hurdle. Maybe Edgar should get with Ted! Dream on …

I know other people who don’t favor DSD. Odd.
