Year of the Dragon for you.
I’ll go with B. Ground wire causing unwanted noise.
The Gryphon Power Zone 3.10 has been in my system for 5 days now. It is amazing; I love it. The musicality, my number one sonic goal for the PZ, is a wonderful improvement over my prior set up which used a P20. It is a keeper.
At the end of the PZ’s 30 day break-in, I will report my observations in more detail.
My PZ has been playing for over 50 hours now. It did seem to regress a little over the first couple of days, but now is sounding better than right out of the box.
Part of the changes I’m hearing I’m sure is due to the new AQ Dragon feeding the PZ, it’s being broken in at the same time as the PZ. The Dragon, in and of itself, is a big step up versus the PC I had feeding the P15.
The GM City is not suitable for PZ, and maybe a higher caliber ground device like CAD will work better. At first I could not hear any difference with City added, but gradually it seemed to make the music less involving.
Luca will let us know if his CAD would work better, assuming he will get it back from the dealer😆
Have you tried listening with vs without the GM City connected? When disconnected I’d try it also plugged vs unplugged into the wall socket.
If I ever receive mine one day (self imposed sarcasm) I’d certainly keep the PZ in use without grounding things attached (GM and/or CAD). At least until it settles down in my room and I’m sure to be accustomed enough.
I left City plugged in since last night, and this afternoon the music was not as involving somehow. I removed it from the wall, and the music sounded better later. The change was gradual and tidy. But for sure City did not improve the sound. I will try it again tomorrow to see if there will be a bigger difference.
GM City made a more noticeable improvement with Puritan PSM than PZ, but it was designed to be paired with Puritan products. So, I wonder if PZ is immune from grounding device, or it needs something different.
But you are right that PZ is still in the early stage of break in, so my initial judgement may not be valid. I usually wait for a week before I try add-ons, but I am leaving next week for 11 days so I tried it sooner than usual.
AQ cables are notorious for long break in periods so if it brand new you have a minimum of a month with the Dragon.
My recent shots for both were to no avail, DRATS!
I just got my (7th) Covid booster, and I’ve been under the weather for the last two days. Sorry to hear that it got to you anyway and I hope your symptoms are mild.
I was an earlier Covid adopter (March 2020 from Spain) and don’t want do so that again.
Be well my friend.
Have had flu and Covid shot since they were available, never missed one. Making light of it considering this nasty head cold that has moved to my chest.
Interesting times ….
@Philip_Gan and fellow Australians - time to get us a group buy …
If anyone is interested in getting a PZ please message me - the option for us is 240v with choice of USA / UK /Euro plugs we can specify at time of order. I will be going US plugs…
Depending on numbers my dealer can organise a group buy around this ….
I dig the pseudo psychedelic chic. Hope she gets you through the sick blues.
Curious thought from my bed: we have meters and foot, kilograms and pounds, coelsius and fahrenheit degrees, liters and gallons, schuko and NEMA plugs, 230 and 120 volts, …and … on and on, but the same annoying viruses! Hetchew!
Don’t tweak the airplane while you’re flying to Hawaii, “grounding” could not be a good idea!
Hi @Gareth
Thank you very much for considering me in a group buy. We’ve just completed a $30k bathroom renovation and I’ve been doing a series of upgrades this year already. I’m going to pass on this kind offer. A bit regretful but we’ve been spending up quite a bit on other things this year and I’ve got to prioritise.
PZ would also mean a whole bunch of new (US) cables.
Kind regards,
Phil
Some advice no one asked for – and you might find to be worth no more than what you’re paying for it:
I might be misreading some of the inputs above but it sounds like some are trying to evaluate the PZ with new power cords or accessories at the same time. If that’s true, you’re making your own evaluation process needlessly murky. When you’re running any experiment, it’s best to consider one variable at a time.
They know. I know. The thing is, with the PZ you know pretty quickly that it is all that. So you feel like maybe one more update before you stop.
Donald won’t stop. I am in full stop. I may buy some cheap interconnects just out of curiosity. But I am set.
As far as the PowerZone, I am really pleased I got the 40@mp version. If you haven’t ordered one yet, it’s a lousy $3K more. I mean seriously, how many of you have a system, now and forever, that can run on a single 20amp circuit. Not me. @1cdfoley for sure, a few friends of mine perhaps. But some of you guys are animals with your Bass. Vmax for sure will get a 40. I think maybe you should as well Ron. Luka should get the big one as well.
Audio Nirvana! Congratulations Al!
That’s Carol Wayne. She appeared on many TV shows during the 1960s-1980s. Sadly, she died at age 42 in 1985.
