Call it simply Sakra Power and you’re done!
Very promising! Anyone tried the PowerZone without any Gryphon components in the system? No Ethos, no Diablo, no Commander or Apex. I mean… oh you already got what I mean!
Unfortunately, Paul used his MU1 as an example on how much improvement PZ has made on it; he really knows how to push me into a deeper rabbit hole😆
… and in his video recorded in China a power optimizer. Just sayin’. It is all marketing to my ears. I prefer to call it the Whatzit, or maybe The McGuffin.
@aangen has the PZ with the MU2 and ethos he shares the same experience. No difference streaming and CD playback with the Powerzone. It’s completely different then any audio device I have experienced.
Believe it or not I think it delivers more than a pair of Sakra V17’s IMO, if you already have them you will have the ultimate setup after adding PZ.
Al’s first comment was enough for me, I’m already pretty convinced… it’s just a question of time (ehm money).
Wow… even more than Sakra!!! Can’t wait!
I am about to compare streaming side two of Led Zep (IV) to 180g Vinyl. Streaming 16.44.1 is very convincing. Using BACCH though, as is my way.
Made up my mind, make a new start. Goin to California with an aching, In My Heart.
Ah the heck with it. I am going to stay in this chair. Vinyl, Hah! It’s for the young.
The surprising fact is 16.44.1 streaming sounded much better after my recent upgrades of FR30 and Grimm MU2, in the past I could not enjoy it at all. I’m listening to my old files more often. It seems PZ will bring it up a level again.
Time to rip your SACDs?
I did, but my laptop and Sony Blueray stopped working last year. I retried a number of times but still didn’t work. PST/MK2 will be with me for a while.
ebay is your friend for these. $40 tops… so worth the work to get those files ripped.
Thanks, I bought two Sony’s from eBay in fact, I think my laptop maybe the issue. But it’s working fine so I don’t need to replace it yet.
Gryphon PZ update.
I was hoping to report the PZ is so good that you can use an average power cable on it and it will deliver reference quality sound. Well it does sound good with an entry level cable, PowerZone definitely benefits from a reference quality power cable just like the P20 does. While using a Shunyata V1 NR on the PZ the sound is good the Grimm MU1 performs like a champ big upgrade over P20 to the point it was almost impossible to hear a noticeable difference between streaming from Qobuz and local NAS vs the Gryphon Ethos. I found this very surprising almost disturbing then I borrowed @straightwire AQ Dragon 20a and I must now retract the earlier statement of the level playing field. Once I connected the Dragon the Ethos CD playback took a big leap over streaming! The Grimm still sounds great!! The Ethos CD playback is superior as it should be. I’ll try the Grimm with the Muon pro that could narrow the gap again but I’m relieved that the Ethos is still king of digital playback at least for me.
Paul, do you have a chance to try a Dream 2020 20A? Having tested that in my system it outperforms the Dragon, can’t imagine what can happen… with the PowerZone!
Do you think that Gryphon components benefit more from the PZ than non-Gryphon ones? Just speculating on a theoretical superior synergy among the same brand’s products but until someone here can confirm it’s just a generic hypothesis.
Hi Luca I will answer both questions.
No unfortunately no Dream 2020! I really wish I could have I believe the D2020 is superior to the Dragon I’m a Stealth believer! The 2020 would be the perfect cable for the PZ but I believe the Gryhon Vanta is also capable.
We were able to test this at @straightwire place. Grimm MU2, PSA BHK 600’s, Jays Audio CD3 MK2 (or whatever the latest greatest Jays cd transport) the PZ worked its magic on the non Gryphon system with ease using only one 20a Dragon and 4 outlets no issues. I’ll let @straightwire describe what he heard but i felt it was very impressive.
You guys will ruin me! Thanks for your precious infos! It’s definitely in my plans.
If you had to choose: do you use the PZ for amplification OR digital sources?
You don’t have to choose so that question is meaningless. I have my preamp, amp, MU2, BACCH-SP, Ethos, and LHY SW-6 plugged into mine. 8 outlets, let none go unused.
Both the amp and preamp require two power cables.
For my setup Diablo 300, Ethos, MU1, SW6 on one 20a CLX speakers and 2 No 25 subs on the other 20a. I’m try not to fall in love as she (PowerZone) will be leaving me soon but I will never forget her! Very very special device I wish I could figure out why it works so damn well but Gryphon hit this out of the park!
If you recall your first experience with the Sakra V17 this might make your head explode. I will definitely be looking forward to the read when you first hear it.
