Gryphon PowerZone

Thanks Luca! All my audio gears are plugged into PZ, and only a sat. is plugged into PSM 156. The SQ is remarkable, and I have not tried any other arrangement.

However, when I upgrade the amp (next year is a long time, but family duty gets in the way), I will experience with moving a couple gears to PSM to relieve the load on PZ. Maybe it does not matter since PZ should be able to handle the power need.

Also, I am using the stock Class+ PC for PSM, so I know I will not get a good result by plugging in PZ for sure.

Very few amps would bog down the 20a PZ that you, and I, have. Monster Class A amps, like the Apex, that Al has, are the exception and that is why there is a 40a PZ.
To get there you might have to forgo a couple years of tuition. I don’t think you are making that trade.
Paul showed me an Apex on Audiomart today for $65k. I may have been playing in the Big Boy club with Stealth purchases but that is out of my league.

I am not in Apex league either, so I am safe with PZ 3.10.

I still owe a Stealth Sakra to CA this year even after my usual withholding. One drawback living in CA is there is no such thing as Captial gain tax, any gain is treated as regular income. I did too much audio upgrade and international vacation last year. Tuition is coming soon. The only good thing is that I sold enough stocks before the market downturn, and we will have enough dough to visit my daughter in NY a few times. She is having a strong morning sickness now.

That’s correct. It doesn’t know or care what’s plugged in or how many. The only downside is the potential for being off too long and what’s being powered. When we start a piece of equipment from being off for some time all of its power supply caps are empty. The in rush current of a cold piece of equipment can be quite a huge spike of current, especially if it’s a power amp. So that’s all I would be careful of and, of course, as we recommend, never turn off the Power Plants.

Thanks Paul. I have a number of Rotel five channel amps (one is used for the four ceiling speakers and one for the large centre channel for home cinema) and every time they start up the lights dim briefly (I would say momentarily but I suspect that’s not English).

A matter pf coincidence, or old age P10, or the mating was rejected? Hmmm…

Coincidence, as the P10 Powerplay graphs showed problems starting about three weeks ago. I only got the PZ 3.10 on Friday. I have another P10 so will try that and do a good comparison with the PZ via the wall or, if the spare P10 is working properly, with the PZ connected to a HC P10 zone. I will start by using using one track that has a real snare drum whack.

Update - the snare drum whack wasn’t dissimilar with the PZ in the wall or via a P10.

INTERESTINGLY I was just listening to the PZ via the wall and noticed the channels were reversed, I’d hit that rare XMOS USB bug that reverses the channels. Having restarted the system they’re back as they should be.

I hope I still have warranty on the P10 regen boards that were replaced about 18 months ago by the UK distributor.

If I understand the PowerZone, it is a passive device. In that case, I don’t believe it could have caused the P10 failure.

Once my PZ .10 arrived my P15 exited post haste. Personally, I was most pleased to see it go, as it is an active solution my concern had been a sudden failure that could impact connected components.
To my mind a P10/12/15/20 provides a potential advantage should one require the voltage regulation capabilities. My power amps were never quite pleased wih the partnership. The PSA DAC was happy with it.

When I moved into my condo in 2014, I had terrible variations in sound quality depending on time of day; the classic argument for the Powerplant. I bought a P20 and it’s been operating almost continuously for many years.
This year I will be buying a PZ and I will try it straight into the wall and also into the P20. Since the PP and the PZ do two different things, I suspect I won’t have to be lugging my P20 from it’s spot behind my rack (thank God). And I’m pretty sure I’ll be the first to try the PZ plugged into the P20.

Second. Lol

I don’t have serious power issues. THD coming in was always 3% or less so that could be the reason the PZ is fine on its own. I’d like to keep the P20 for home theater but that’s a luxury I can’t afford if I want to buy the best power cable (Stealth Dream 2020) for the PZ.

Try an IsoTek V5 SYNCRO UNI 16. This helps align the sine wave and remove DC components. I think it can be helpful in front of a powerzone. Since using the IsoTek, I’ve no longer any problems with humming transformers, and the sound has also benefited without any compromises. Best regards, Andreas

Mine regularly runs 6-7% into the P20. Gotta love Duke Electric here in FL! :poop:

My P20 never indicated below 8% and usually settled in around 10% distortion. I do not know if it is a detriment to the system with the PZ now in its place.
Given the improvement of the PZ, additional line conditioning or regenerating to address distortion seems a step backwards approach.

By that logic, wouldn’t a better cable from the wall to the PZ be a step backwards?
I can’t wait to get mine. The curiosity is killing me.

Opposite is true. The PZ, like the P20, seems to pass on the best of what comes ahead of it. All of the PZ gang has experienced this.
I trust you will as well.

I can’t wait for you to experience the magic.

I haven’t met anyone who wasn’t pleased with one. Ron won’t be the first. Weedee scared me though.

I am sad though. Recently, two forum members got PowerZones with their Diablo 333s. At the same time, which is the correct thing to do. I believe I tried to talk them into just the 333 first, PZ a month later. So they could pinpoint what it adds and enjoy the breakin process. It’s a fun 3 or 4 weeks.

There’s something to be said about doing it the correct way, they sound so good when fully settled in. Personally I wish there was no breakin process.
