My mother’s brother was the first of five to land on Ellis Island. Alone, 16, barely enough English to get by, he was put into 5th grade. He made it through high school within a few years, was offered a full scholarship to Columbia School of Engineering. He adopted July 4th as his “Rebirth-Day”. Every rebirth-day was a major celebration.
A great story, Ron. A safe and Happy 4th!
The Declaration of Independence was completed on July 2nd but not signed by all till the 4th. Good joke anyway.
Thomas Paine not Thomas Jefferson, wrote the Declaration of Independence.
I thought about replying.

My neighbor’s cat spit up a furball
I think you made your point - your point is you don’t understand humor.
Wasn’t making a response to your post.
I wish for the 4th to be something happy
Please post in the spirit of the title of this thread and the great story in the first post.
Thomas pain wasn’t even a member of the Continental Congress at the time of the writing of the declaration of independence.
The booms have started!
I am always amused that while dogs find this to be a big deal my cats and llamas have a yeah, whatever attitude.
With my cats it seems to be more of an annoyance than anything else.
In the spirit of truth, freedom and the American way, have a listen to the above video I posted. The evidence is very compelling.
I feel so lucky to have spent this 4th in a house full of friends and family, everyone happy, eating stuff we shouldn’t more than once or twice per year.
Now the fireworks are going batsht crazy–and interfering with my low volume late night listening.
Life’s good.
