Have you heard any new speakers lately?

Giya G1 Spirits……
The Giya G1 pales in comparison.

Wow. Just wow. Congratulations.

I hear the Giya G1 Spriits require a million watts to play 105 db musical peaks

Not sure that’s enough if you use a calculator.

Stopped into my dealer just on a whim today and he played me some Sonus Faber Sonettos, and I have to say I was gobsmacked. I cannot believe the oomph they put out without a subwoofer. Especially for the roughly $5K price point. My jaw dropped when the bass drum thumped in their “Hotel California” live track. It had me reevaluating my life choices.

Was surprised they no longer carry Focal at all. They said Focal had been pulling out of dealers all over the USA with the intent of opening their own shops. This was a place that had previously hosted Focal factory reps for a grand utopia demo. Weird choice.

Also went and tried on an Omega Seamaster too. Was feeling needy today I guess. It would be a tough decision between the watch and the speakers. Lol.

That would be tough choice. I’d go Seamaster

Your favorite speakers are back on TMR, $1 shy of $40k

Are you referring to the Neolith’s? I own a pair of CLX Art which are my favorite pair of Martin Logan speakers and ML’s best IMO. The neolith’s are cool but I’d never get them in my basement. TMR has a pair of Requests and SL3’s for under $2k that’s a bargain! The Neolith’s would still be $45k after tax and shipping!

Considering that my new vehicle cost only $10.5k (before tax) after selling my older vehicle to Carvana, $40k for speakers isn’t for me, even though I am a crazy audiophile. I like seeing them, as they are great looking, and enjoyed listening to music played on them, but am quite happy with my current setup. I have decent dynamics, decent female vocal bloom and decent imaging. The one downside is an emphasized upper bass which bleeds into the midrange, leading to a less-clean or slightly distorted midrange, speaking in ultimate critical terms. But I can live with that downside for the wonderful magic. I can imagine a trickled-down FR30 with the potential to improve in that area, have similar magic and be cleaner overall, and potentially my destination speaker. At least that is what I hope for the PS Audio speaker line

I got a crazy good deal on my CLX speakers! I couldn’t afford them when they were new. I feel very fortunate with what I have acquired stereowise and how much I have saved over buying new!

I was deeply enjoying my thirty year old ADS L710 Series Two loudspeakers when I got a hankering for some nice Wilsons. When the Yvettes came available from multiple sources for around $15k I thought that was a bit too much money. Then I remembered my now dearly departed father in law was giving me that much for Christmas. I took it as a sign from Bob that I should buy the speakers. When they arrived my buddy who helped me get them downstairs and out of their crates commented that he strongly preferred the sound of the ADS speakers and I was dumb. He later changed his mind. So fast forward to changing out all my gear save these pricey Wilsons and my Guru says that the Wilsons are unworthy of the gear he lead me to buy. I was going to forgive him but then I thought what if he is right about this like he was about all the other gear?

Wilson Alexx V speakers were just released and an absurd number of the original Alexx speakers hit the market for around $70K. Maybe George would be happy with this? No sir, Wilsons are not on the acceptable choices list. I already was quite familiar with the MBL 101E speakers. They can be had in the vicinity of $50k without much trouble. I missed a chance to buy a demo pair of Vivid Spirits in the same price range. Instead I decided to go with a new pair in the color of my choice. That got me into the sub $75k range. I love my choice more each day. But that is a stupid amount of money. Bah.

It makes zero sense I am going to listen to the MBL Extremes. They image like mini monitors and they don’t require a large room. And they are way sillier and more sinister looking. But I’d have to sell my Gryphon Antileon Evo amp and buy one two three four new MBL amps. God. Forget about it. I think at current prices that would be close to a half million. Nah. Can’t see it. But I hope to meet someone who goes there. I hope to make MinnesotaFats go there as he would only need to buy two additional amplifiers. And he lets me listen to his system all alone. Yeah, that’s what I need to do.

Hey Matt!

$40k for the Neolith’s is a deal and I’m sure the Gryphon would make them sing! By the way when you get the MBL extremes can I borrow the Antileon amp? Lol

Only if you and two other big guys come to lift it and carry it away.

I have my new KEF LS50W2 speakers and a pair of SVS 3000 Micro subs up and running in a “simple second system”.
This is a remarkably good sounding combo for not a lot of money.
Happy days!

Excellent set up! Where did you get the Kef’s?

Hey Vern… how are the Wilsons working out for you?

I got the KEF’s at Crutchfield along with the SVS 3000 micro’s. I was going to get the KEF 62 but for me 2 subs have always been a better solution and I was able to get 2 SVS micros for the price of the KEF 62.

Hi Mark,
I got them setup and connected to make sure they work but that’s about it. Other life issues have got in the way since early September and we have only been to that house a couple of times since then.
For the short time I have listened though they do sound like money well spent. I spent a couple of hours fussing them in last weekend and was able to get the subs crossed over at 30 or 32 hz to blend well.
The Wilson’s do play deep especially considering the bass drivers are 8" if I remember correctly.
