A beautiful piece of kit.
If it performs and sounds half as good as it looks…

“The Linn Klimax DSM is the best product Linn has ever made.”
High praise from this review/reviewer:
FYI.
I have and experienced a phase and polarity shift on the DVI I2S connection. No issues on the USB connection. I stayed with the USB and never tracked down the issue with the DVI side but believe it to be a setting issue within the Rose 150b. I did note that going through the DVI, I could control the volume from the Rose (as well as Roon) app. Through the USB, not able, or just have not figured out how, to control the DAC output volume via the Rose/Roon apps. I have been using the amp to manage volume since I cannot control the volume from my iPad. I can mute the volume through the apps. Sound quality through USB is fantastic.
Overall observation. The 150B punches above its price. Super happy with mine.
Hi Rose audio 150 owners,
I have a stereo system that I use for listening to music and watching movies.
I would like to know if the optical input of the Rose allows you to pass a stereo digital stream to its USB output. This would allow it to be used as a “dcc”.
My external dac does not have an optical input. It would be to connect a Zidoo Neo Signature (to watch movies) while taking advantage of my external dac which is superior to that of Zidoo and Rose Audio. And the latter would serve me as a streamer to listen to music.
I asked the question to Rose Audio but no answer.
Thank you in advance for your answers and tests.
All the best,
Fred
I have not tried that. Don’t know.
Thank you for the quick reply.
This type of configuration will make it possible to use its external dac for the television or a CD player… which would be inyetessant “plus service”.
All the best
I’m close to my MK II purchase but I find the Hi Fi Rose intriguing. How does the DAC section compare to the MK II? It would make a lot of economic sense to just use the Rose for both streaming and DAC functions if it is in the same league sonically. What say you?
I purchased the Rose150b well before the MK2 hit the market and was very pleased with the internal DAC performance. The software interface is very good as well. My family enjoys interacting with the Rose touch screen.
Now that the DirectStream MK2 is integrated into the stereo system, I only use the Rose as a network transport/streamer (Qobuz). The mk2 DAC is noticeably better than the Rose internal dac. I don’t think I would buy both if starting fresh. Maybe consider the Rose 250 at about half the price or some of the other streamer recommendations offered in this forum.
Btw, the Rose acting as a network transport
/streamer is connected to a 2013 Mac Pro as the Roon Core. Good luck with your decision.
Thank you for responding. This is so useful to me. I’m not particularly computer savvy so an all in one streaming solution is attractive to me. One the other hand, paying for a DAC twice when I don’t have to is not. Trying to follow the discussion over on the Holo Red thread makes my head spin. I’m just going to follow my instincts and go slowly one step at a time. DS MK II first and streamer later. Emphasis will be on sound quality first. Being efficient with the cash outlay has to be a priority as well.
before I got the Red, I was right with you. Thinking about this one:
But it was a smaller chassis than the 150. I wish that used same box for 250 as 150 and just dropped the DAC. that would be killer.
My HiFi Rose 150b is one of the best pieces that I have ever bought. Really enjoy it. DAC is super good , not DS MKII good, but close enough for now. May eventually add a DS MKII. Right now looking to upgrade amps next month. M700 to M1200. Love the BHK amps but don’t want something that heavy. Excited about the next generations of Class D.
I can’t get the RS130 out of my head. Ready to trade an important (not as important as it used to be) left body part for it. It says it’s DLNA compatible, anyone use HIFI Rose with JRiver or Audirvana?
My RS-150B works great with JRiver.
Hope you try it…would love to hear about your experience.
I2S output compatible with PSA DACs…?
given the lack of Roon certification for the 130, so long after it’s release for sale, and the many software issues I see on the hifi rose site, sure would be concerned. Seems like every streamer has some issue (software is hard) but claiming Roon certification when it isn’t true….hmmm. PSA did the right thing, sure it cost them, by waiting till the AirLens was properly Roon certified.
Check out what. Jeff Rowland is doing with classD
