Holo Red impressions

In short: I agree!

TMI, Vince.

I don’t care to know what you do in the privacy of your own listening room.

Which way do you rub them? It makes a difference

For you guys experimenting with the Red as I am you might want to consider giving the MoOde Player OS a try in place of Red OS. To my ears it was a pretty good upgrade in sound though I thought the Red was pretty good with it’s stock OS. For now I’m giving it a test run against the Aries G1 at four times the price and it’s more than holding it’s own so far. In this system in Greenville it outputting via USB into the Holo Spring 3 KTE.

It’s more of a rotation.

Copy that! A friend of mine has a Allo bridge with additional LPS and recently switched to MoOde as well. With the same conclusion.

Thank you, Jack. This is encouraging to hear.

Hmpf! Whaddya know? My Holo Red just showed up! Got no notice at all from m either Kitsune or DHL. :man_shrugging:

Anxious to learn what you think after it has settled in…

Have fun.

Hmm. A bit of trouble.

I plugged it all in. Ethernet, I2S, Power - no USB. Powered up, found it, ran multiple upgrades (latest is 4/15). Set up for DSD DOP (since the DS DAC converts to DOP anyway). Tried both OFF-ON-ON-OFF and (as directed in the manual) OFF-ON-OFF-OFF. I get sound out, but compared to other digital signals into the MkII it is at a very low volume. Checked all cables. Can’t figure out why.

I’ll try DSD Native.

Bupkus. Doesn’t surprise me as I was playing PCM anyway. Any ideas out there?

Well, that was weird. One last reboot and now we’re good. :man_shrugging:

Yeah…I experienced a similar issue on first start up. It took a while for the Holo Red to properly complete the ā€œhandshakeā€ with the DAC.

Have fun…

My RED arrived today. I added it to my headphone rig in my office until I have time to add it to my main system with the May KTE. When connected to the DSD, I see this graphic in the upper left hand screen of the display which from posts in this thread means the preemphasis bit is on. Should this only happen when I’m listening to 16/44khz music? When I either listed to high rez PCM or or use Roon to upscale to something higher than 44khz, I still see this icon. I’m connecting via I2S.

Anyone else not getting sampling rate / bit depth on the DS MkII with the Red on I2S? I just get:

-/-

I swear I did, but now you have me paranoid. The screen is so far away I do not really check once I hear music.

Tony

I get both on the Spring 3 screen but I’m using USB as that’s the best input on the Spring.

Should I be able to see the Red with the Lumin interface from my iPad? I can see it from mConnect.

What’s the source? Roon? If so, did you set the volume to fixed?

Ahhh Lumin… I know not this magical beast.

Have you got UPnP checked on the Red OS main screen?
