That’s a profoundly interesting article for me right now. I’m not sure that I have digested it as a streamer OR a ddc. I’ll be able to use it either way, but thought I would be getting rid of my matrix AND my roon endpoint.
Manual on line;
Great results, but I have no idea if they translate into better sound.
If you are using it as a streamer (and roon endpoint), then I would suggest you don’t need a DDC given the output options it has?
(assuming DDC without sample rate conversion, which seems to be the common usage around here)
Proof is in the puddin, right? It’d be great to happily use the hdmi output from it - as a streamer. Does it work like that? It’s not a huge deal, other than I currently expect PCM from S/PDIF.
If you are asking if you can use the I2S output to a DAC, yes you can.
Yep - ethernet connection (“input”) and use any one of the outputs coax or optical or I2S over HDMI-cable out to the DAC. You could also use USB though I don’t see any reason to with I2S available.
no need for a DDC to convert to a different output as it has them all (excepting AES on an XLR)
Maybe I am! I was about to somewhat question the order I placed. Trying to simplify sometimes leads to something missing.
The Red has a matching output for every input on the two models of the DS DAC so no need for any type of DDC and yes it does have AES output. The only type of output not available on the Red is I2S over RJ-45 which is only used by Sonnet and a couple of other boutique manufacturers. So you immediately eliminate the Matrix, an LPS and two cables. Depending on your outlay for those pieces a sale should cover your cost for the Red. Not sure how you can lose and if your moving from the Bridge II you get a better sounding device that runs on all the same software you are used to.
And there’s a set of ginsu knives as a bonus!
Act now!
That is my hope and intention…although it appears I will lose the MQA unfold capabilities of the Bridge II.
Not the end of the world, but I would prefer to not sacrifice anything (even the non-critical MQA “Origami”) with my (hopefully) upgrade path.
Looking forward to receiving my shipping notification…It has been about two weeks (11 days to be precise) since my order date.
Cheers.
I wish I had ordered mine sooner. By the time I got around to ordering, it was 1/22.
I still own two of them. They are good bread knives.
I had to decide on the Mk2 trade-in before I could make this move. Thinking about a good power cable for this little red Swiss Army knife.
How much do you want to spend?
Probably less than most, but a guy can dream.
This has been my go to for digital devices for years now but they are others if this is more than you want to spend. A lower priced alternative is Audio Envy in Colorado.
TWL great cables for the money
I wish it was that easy for me.
I don’t run Ethernet to the audio rig, its all optical.
So currently I have a EtherREGEN A side fiber with a Farad PS along with a clock with a Farad PS to output B side Ethernet to the RED.
And the SR Purple fuse just arrived.
I was looking at that and was really close to pulling trigger, but figured I would try the red first. Dont need the Lumin software. I am sure that is part of the cost.
