Holo Red impressions

Tim is been helpful but the Red is the worst manual in audio history and I am having fits getting it to work with MConnect to Tidal from my iPhone with the Red. Never had a problem with the Bridge II in the PSA DSD MkI. Help!
I went to the Audio menu on the Red and ticked the UPNP and saved. Not sure what you do on that page when you are done. MConnect does not recognize network nor does it see the Red as a Device. So I cannot control Tidal with MConnect on Red, which makes Red useless. Any ideas. Thank you. Neal

Hmm. My mConnect sees the Red. Are you still using the free version of mConnect that “saw” the Bridge and Bridge II? I think that version will not see the Red. You have to get the paid version of mConnect.

If you’re trying to use the same version of MConnect you used with the Bridge II it won’t work.

Thx. Not sure whether I paid for it or not. I would delete and reinstall the paid version if it works. I will try.

I am using version 2.4.50 FWIW.

Which version do you suggest? Do I have to uninstall and then reinstall a new MConnect. If it is this simple ….

The version that worked for the Bridge II only works for actual Conversdigital boards like the Bridge II and the upcoming Airlens. The version that works for all UPnP/DLNA devices is this one. You might also want to try out the 14 day free trial of JPlay for IOS as it sounds better to me and is less clunky.

I have now installed the paid MConnect version. Tidal Plays to the iPhone, recognizes UPnP Devices in the Play to screen but it will not download the UPnP Devices. WTF? Any ideas? You have gotten me this far.

Try closing it down and re-boot the phone. May also have to re-boot the Red and give them both a fresh start.

Interestingly I finally just tried to play a DSD file to the Red, from the mConnect HD on my iPad that worked fine with my Sonore device. It pops up an alert saying Device Error Reported and will not play the DSD. PCM works fine.

I installed the paid MConnect and kept pressing the UPnP Devices button until tje Red appeared! It sounds grand, audibly better by 25%-33% over Bridge II card.
I owe you and the other helpers a sent of gratitude. I owe you some free legal
advice in my knowledge realm. Many thx. Neal

Anytime Neal, yes MConnect can be slow to recognize new devices but it gets there eventually. After you get a feel for the Red you might want to consider trying MoOde OS instead of Red OS to see if you hear a difference. Same with the trial for JPlay.

Please try playing a DSD file.

I don’t seem to be able to get the paid version of MConnect to list DSD files. I was able to setup UPnP and stream AIFF and FLAC with no issues. When I browse the same library for DSD the screen remains blank for any DSD directory I choose no matter the format, DSD64 through DSD512.

Let me recover first! What is MoOd OS?

I Just streamed DSD using Audirvana via UPnP to the Red and out to my Headphone DAC without issue. There’s something odd about MConnect, the Red, and DSD.

Vince, try Folder View to get the DSD by file name.

How do I get to Folder View? I don’t seem to see that as an option.
