I was visiting my dad and brought the Red with to hear on his Pass XP-22, X260.8’s and DS1 and I ended up giving it to him once we heard what a difference it made after removing the bridge ll from the DS.
Let me know if anyone is interested in selling
Timing is just a little off for me, unfortunately. I’m waiting to get a sense of the LUMIN U2 against the soon to be seen Rose RS130. I knew the Red would be an interim solution until something in that price range showed up. Hopefully you’ll be able to find one sooner.
I’m betting that a lot of Holo Reds will suddenly become available once when (if?) the PS Audio AirLens finally ships. I’m fairly certain that mine will…
Something I never noticed before. I use Paul’s tracks to identify left and right when I reword things. Just to make sure I did not flip anything.
When I am comparing red to eversolo I was hearing weird things. Flip flop channels. I am that’s weird. Check it again and it’s right. Soni found my old XLO cd which is pcm and tried that channel identification. And it’s backwards with Red. What the heck.
Is there a setting for that i missed? Need to check manual.
Update: flipped the first two dip switches and red does pcm right but DSD is now flipped. Hmmm.
I am sick and the diagnosis is audiophilia nervosa, so I bought HOLO RED as an alternative to PS audio bridge II. The basic configuration is - TIDAL / Roon on NAS Synology - ethernet - switch - Holo Red - HDMI - I2S-1 - Directstream MkI (Lundahl Vcom mode) vs. switch - Bridge II
This configuration allows for an immediate A/B comparison, which I have been doing for a whole month. I would simply compare the sound from the Holo to a situation like when you put a thick blanket over the speaker. There is a significant loss of height and space. removing the PS bridge also has no effect.
I might be doing something wrong, but PS audio bridge is an excellent product for me at the moment
Even the original Bridge which I’ve been using since day 1 ain’t half bad. But, then, ignorance is bliss and as long as I continue to not listen to any of the newer stuff I’ll remain fat, dumb and happy.
FWIW, I switched back to B II for last night’s listening session and the improvement in a sense of “air”, depth and height of the sound stage, as well as clarity of mid and lower frequencies was startling.
The system really clicked last night/early this morning and I was up way past my bed time enjoying the music. JRMC was serving up my files via Wi-Fi from my iMac and a Synology NAS. The iMac hosts JRMC and some of my files. The NAS hosts the rest of my files.
I think the “blanketing”/dampening effect of the Holo Red compared to the performance of the B II is as good a descriptor as any, to my ears/IMO.
YMMV.
The search for a better option to the Bridge continues.
To me this is a head scratcher. With my Red and MkII I hear nothing like this. I was using my MkI with BII for years before I pulled it and switched to a Rendu and Matrix (which was slightly better). I compared the Rendu and Matrix into my MkII alongside the Red, and found the Red to be at least as good, if arguably a hair better.
