MK1? If this isn’t a typo, you will have to reach out to PSA to see if they will be working on a fix. The MK1 has been “retired”. I don’t know if we can expect any more s/w for our old friend.
I use to have loud pops that would startle anybody at the end of certain DSD256 tracks with the MK1. But with the MK2, no pops, just dead silence, so the MK2 fixed that annoyance.
Yeah I can’t justify spending $4-5k after trade-in for a Mk2 for incremental benefit.
Forget what you are using as a music service, but if there is an option to turn off “gapless playback”, try that.
The popping could be a Red issue as well.
Where did you get this from? You compared aMK1 to a MK2 and it as incremental? Maybe it’s your system, not the DAC’s.
sorry my bad. I assumed MKII…
No I didn’t compare. I understand people feel Mk 2 is revolutionary. I guess I’m happy with my Mk 1 for now.
Local library through Roon. I added a 2sec gap for the Holo and seems to have made it a lot better. Thanks!
Th improvement is incremental, but it happens to be a good sized increment.
It is incrementally more natural sounding, it is incrementally less distorted sounding, it is incrementally fuller and better textured sounding, it is incrementally much bigger and deeper soundstage, It is incrementally more detailed and transparent sounding, I could go on, but you get the picture.
I highly doubt the Red is the issue, sounds like your DAC is having locking issues.
Been listening to the Red for close to a month now and never had issues switching between formats.
Then again, that’s within the context of my system.
I use Roon too and I hear the same loud pops from RED to DS Sr MK1 via I2S but only with DSD rate changes (no pops switching from different PCM rates, PCM to DSD, or DSD to PCM).
When playing using the RED to Chord DAC via USB there are no pops.
I think you are only the second acknowledged owner of the “Red”.
Care to share some utility and performance experiences/opinions…?
TIA.
Cheers.
So far I am satisfied with it from a convenience factor (Streamer+DDC) as it replaced 2 boxes for me.
However I have not done any critical listening with it as I am waiting for the delivery (and then some burning in) of the DS MKII to do so.
I have been switching back and forth between the Red and my Sonore Sig Rendu SE Optical.
Both have there own idiosyncrasies regarding how to feed the best source signal into them.
Both are pressed into service as NAA with HQPlayer embedded on a SonicTransporter i9 optical.
I have just come down off of one of the best listening sessions that I have had yet with the Red.
I don’t know if the planets were aligned correctly, the Red reached a burn in benchmark or I hit on the best network configuration to feed it.
The Red has been pushing me to try different network configurations that I did not consider before.
The Sig Rendu/STi9 are optical animals, I thought that the Red might be held back since it is Ethernet input.
I was wrong, the current network path that is feeding the Red spectacularly is as follows;
ISP modem > ETH > Planet GT1205A Sw/FMC > 24m FO > Clocked EtherREGEN > ETH > Red > USB > KTE MAY
What shocked me was connecting the STi9 via ETH to the “A” side of the EtherREGEN with the above.
This configuration is unreal with the Red.
Thanks for the notes and comments.
My target output is I2S into the DS DAC MK I.
Seems like I will have to keep an open mind (and ears) when trying to figure out what is optimum in my system.
Regards.
That’s what I’ve been using and I’m quite impressed must say
Good to know.
Thank you.

Hi… and what is the configuration of PINS that you are using in the red?
