Brandford Marsalis at Revolution Hall December 8, 2024. As always a fantastic outing. They might be the tightest Quartet currently performing.
You might enjoy this. A performance from “Beat”. Well shot, great sound.

Arooj Aftab at the Aladdin Theater. This is the second time in two years that we’ve seen her. It was amazing. Her voice is so expressive.
The Gits are a punk rock band founded in the late 80s at Antioch College in my hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and fronted by singer Mia Zapata, and one of my fave bands of all time. They moved to Seattle in 1989 (a year before I did). Their live shows are legendary and they were on their way to signing a major record deal when Mia was raped and murdered while heading home after a late night show in 1993. Last year Sub P Pop decided to re-release their albums remastered by Jack Endino. Last Saturday KEXP hosted a record release party and the remaining members (Steve Moriarty, Matt Dresdner, and Joe Spleen along with friend Ben London) gathered to put on a show with guest singers. In this photo the guest singer is Maria Mabra, one of Mia’s best friends who went to high school with my sister in Yellow Springs. She brought the energy.

How was Fink? I have a show lined up in a few weeks.
Intimate, and deeply heartfelt in a similar way Fink moves me when listening to his recordings. Also, the evident friendship and synchronicity with Tim, playing guitars and drums, adds an emotional ‘softness’ to the atmosphere.
I hope you enjoy them.
Wow! Thanks!
I was looking forward to it already, now I am double ready!
Happy 75th Birthday to George Thorogood!
We went to see him last year. He had an incredible amount of energy for his age to be running round the stage all night. Although, he stopped several times to tell stories, so I guess it was his way of taking a break.
I get to see Fink this Friday in a very tiny room. I am psyched!
I love Bill Frisell as a musician and as a human. But lately he’s been playing like he had a stroke.
He was a bit laid back the other night. He dug in a few times and it was really good. It’s still in their when he wants it.
