I always thought I ought to pop into Teddy Pardo. He’s only half a mile or less from my mother-in-law. Then I suppose I’d have to go see my mother-in-law.
It works amazingly well.
Do all the other mods too for full effect!
“Careful now”, “Down with that sort of thing”!
Just had a look at their website - I have to say their stuff looks remarkably similar to the DACs I see on Amazon or eBay from, say, Topping and the like.
Reminds me a bit of “Musical Paradise” kit too.
Not to say they are not “special” and worth over a grand I guess, difficult to tell when almost everything is made in China, at least in part.
But going within a mile of one’s mother-in-law can indeed be risky…
You are my inspiration for the Oppo mods Gary! My parts are on the way! Power supply, I2S board and stabilizing plate. Still debating the clock upgrade.
For audio the clock upgrade is perhaps moot as the DS dac ignores the incoming clock anyway, and the improvements in the clock upgrades don’t impact on audio so much…as Ted has explained…but are there other knock on improvements from it for audio…who knows.
For video quality though, especially on 4K blurays, upgrading both clocks is a doozie.
I watch a lot of movies too from my Oppo so seemed rude not to go for it.
My oppo gets a lot of movie use also. What clock mod did you go with? I assume it made significant upgrade to the video performance as well as audio. Thanks, Paul
Appreciate the info. Based on this we are looking for the Bridge III around the first part of 2022 if my math is correct.
Octave Beta: Around Oct 2020
Octave Release: Not sure how long Beta will last but lets say selling starts Jan 2021
Stellar version of Octave: Around July 2021
Bridge III: Around Jan 2022
It’s well known that TP started off making alternate Naim power supplies, and moved on to good quality affordable non-nonsense audio electronics with a retro Naim mentality. There is not some serious competition and I think he saw it coming and reduced his product line. Very highly regarded all the same.
I shall add them to my “list” of genuine sources of kit then
As always - if it sounds great, then I am in.
Hey Paul,
I went for the Femro clock upgrade from Oppomod, teh higher specced one which swaps out the 27 MHz (MAIN clock) + 25 MHz (BD-ROM drive clock) for OPPO 203.
Its tiny surface mount work, so beyond my pay grade.
Got a trusty local electronics guru to do the work.
(check my thread for pics and details)
I’m not sure if I have a guy that good with a solder iron and I don’t know how I feel sending the board to South Korea. I’d worry it would get lost in the mail or damaged in transit.
Do some research Paul for tech’s in your area.
It’s not work, for the non professional.
I agree. If Oppo still made players I’d probably send it off to S. Korea but since they are very pricey to replace now, not so much!
Paul,
Hifi forums are your friend.
Lots of like minded Peeps, some of which used to work for big Hifi companies and happy to help.

Paul if it takes another 1,5 years for a Bridge III, do you think there will be a fix for the DSD non gapless bug (appearing e.g. with Jriver) that was introduced with the last Bridge firmware and worked before?
I’m in the US. Halfway in between Milwaukee and Chicago. I’m sure I could find someone.
Hello from across the Colony’s then
Absolutely.

Worth doing the mods man.
Not sure how close to the PS AUDIO sacd player it is, but it’s pretty great without comparisons.
Plus after mods, reference level (I’m sure) video disc player.
Thank you again for all your help!
Probably not since I am not even aware of it. We fixed gapless a long time ago, no? You say with JRiver DSD gapless doesn’t work? Sorry to sound so ignorant.
Indeed yes, it worked with the previous firmware and then not anymore. Had some conversation (incl. descriptions) with friendly support but to no effect. In case Theres a chance that someone would still work on this, I can easily restart on the normal support route, we don’t have to clarify here. Would just be nice to know if there’s a chance at all.
