Just curious, Are there any pictures of the inside of DS MK2 production unit? I’m not taking mine apart
It appears it would disassemble just like the DS. Lucky gor me it is supporting my preamp or I’d likely would have been inside already. The rear fuse holder also helps.
Having weight on its lid it doesn’t sing as much as the P20 lid.
I tried once to put some fancy metal door stops on top of M1200, and DS. I was not sure I liked it. They made the sound less bright, but I did not like what they did to the soundstage. It is good Amazon has an easy return policy.
I have several of those doorstops - I use them as vacuum cleaner stops in front of the speakers
They were in packs of 3 for a fiver in Poundstretcher when we got them, they seem to be more expensive on Amazon now.
I just wonder what is inside them.
Could be lead of course, but I still wonder what happened to all that depleted uranium waste that was a big worry a couple of decades ago and then everyone went silent about it.
Next thing you know - cheap door stops and lots of glow sticks for sale.
Makes you wonder…
(For the avoidance of doubt, I am joking.

@msaladino22 If you look at forum ‘Modding the DirectStream DAC’ Ted has some pictures. It my not be the latest production boards but it’s close.
Well said and so true.
Any chance for a dimension top of analog board to bottom of digital board. I.e. height of stand offs?
Seeing that transformer mounted directly to the bottom of the DAC in the front right corner explains why it is audible at a near field. I bet putting some kind of damping pad between it and the case would make it quieter. It also looks smaller than the one used in the mk 1.
I took those pictures last week when I had the top off, but unfortunately didn’t take any parts measurements. After I put it back together I actually thought about some of those things but didn’t want to take it back apart after I had already reinserted the unit back into my rack. The top comes off just like the MK1, so the on/off process is not very difficult. I had the top off so that I could try and fix the gap in the front panel where the two parts come together to the left of the PS Audio standby button. I was able to close up the gap a bit, but it’s impossible to make the seam flush like the one to the right of the volume control. From some of the other pictures of MK2’s that I’ve seen the gap seems to be fairly common.
Interesting less components but higher cost, 8k.
?
There are many times as many components in the Mk II as the Mk I. They cost a heck of a lot more than those in the Mk I and do a lot more.

Thanks Ted for giving me a clearer comparison picture, point taken.
Is it really a piece of audio gear, sure?
Yes sir. I have one a few feet away from me.
I thought a Borg ship has landed and all it plays is “resistance is futile you will be assimilated “.
Wow speechless
