Tough question of the day. Between Muon Tempus and Pro System, which give you more improvement in your streaming chain?
Both
Donald, the combination of LHY 10 and LHY 6 make a strong team!
First of all, I would consider one Muon per filter. If I were you, I would consider a system with a suitable Muon cable. Then you have something to try out and only high-quality Ethernet cables for your system.
Greetings, Andreas
Paul, you are no help. Luca will give me a better answer, I am sure. Andreas made a great point, any answer does not help me since I already have two switches of different brand from his anyway.
Luca, I do not even know why I asked, and you do not need to answer. I had a good round of golf before the heat wave started in the Bay Area. I will continue my fall-in-sleep music therapy that usually cure any upgrade anxiety.
Donald, don’t worry about another switch. It’s questionable whether the LHY SW10/SW 6 combination is easy to beat. And your Grimm MU2 also contributes a lot. In my opinion, trying the muon pro filter makes the most sense.
Also with regard to the 1Gbit connection. SmoothLAN limits to 100MBit or only cleans half of a 1Gbit connection
Luca previously had a switch that was only capable of 100Mbit as far as I know.
Where can we buy Muon Pro in US? Thanks…Andy
The Muon pro is only sold directly by NA.
Donald, you can of course go all out and swap the SW 6 for the Tempus and try SW10 >SFP>Tempus>Muon pro>Grimm MU2.
Maybe move SW 6 to the router at the beginning.
Keep calm my friend!
Think about your next trip and the PowerZone. Take your time.
The Muon Pro filter (even without its Ethernet cable) is the first step I recommend you for sure. Is it more impactful than the Tempus? Not at all. But I guess once you try the Muon Pro you want more, as usual. Therefore the Tempus should be the next step, because it enhances the qualities of the filter even more.
At least, that was my step by step experience.
Hope that helps.
Luca, you are now using 1Gbit with the Tempus, unlike before. With the Muon pro after my Melco switch, 1Gbit sounds better to me, although Melco recommends 100Mbit. Without the muon pro, I would agree.
NA recommends 1Gbit again.
Donald uses 1Gbit with LHY.
I was already reassured to read the review of the LHY 10 after it was highly praised there and described as being on par with my Melco switch. The Melco should sound less dynamic. That changed when the Melco’s standard power supply was replaced with a Keces.
With the power supply, the Melco turned into a Bist.
I was happy to read that and can hardly wait for my Super 10 power supply to show up. Unfortunately, it was sent with Fedex Economy. Seems to be snail mail.
The Tempus has a separate high-quality power supply.
The LHY SW 10 has two separate transformers and a good clock that is probably powered separately. So it’s a solidly made switch.
My recommendation for Donald would be to try a Muon pro filter system first.
Of course, a switch with a separate power supply offers the possibility of upgrading it again.
The Tempus power supply is supposed to be high quality and a good power supply contributes significantly to the sound experience.
Let’s see how the Farad super 10 can spice up my Melco. Maybe something can be done with the Tempus too.
Greetings Andreas
Thanks as always!
My trip to Hawaii is coming up a bit over two weeks from now. I got the news that PZ could arrive at the dealer early next week. If George can ship it out next week, then I should get it before my vacation. I will start the break in by early Nov. after vacation.
I am sure other owners will phrase it like carzy! If I am getting a Muon Pro, it will happen in next year anyway to avoid the holiday season.
In Europe this may be true. In the USA Muon can be purchased thru a dealer.
Does it cost more then? NA told me that they only deliver directly to avoid additional margins from a dealer. Otherwise the prices would have to be increased considerably.
If you have a source in the USA that is not significantly more expensive, that is of course good.
Then I don’t understand why Donald is hesitating, he can easily test muon pro in his system.
I have no doubt that the Tempus switch is a fantastic piece, especially since it is made by network acoustics! I cannot say that I have heard it in anybody’s system, including my own. But is it $3500 better than a SW10? The PowerZone will give you the Biggest improvement that you will have in your system I feel very confident in that statement. I would wait for the PZ And then go to muon pro from there.
Both Muon Pro and Tempus have 60 days return policy available from Network Acoustics. A good thing.
Can’t wait to know how the lucky new owners of PZ3 will enjoy their little jewel soon. Especially after such a long waiting.
It’s the same old story, Donald! Each time we purchase something new it seems to be delivered exactly when we are away from home. The tough life of the audiophile!
I am also very curious to hear what the PZ users will say.
Muon Pro is easily within my budget, but I hesitate only because I am happy with Omega/SmoothLan combo. But you have to point out it is limited to 100mb; now that sounds almost like a crime to me.
Well, I will wait until next year since PZ will be here soon. Then vacation plus holidays will keep me busy.
I can also say in my system the Muon made a nice improvement before the LHY was in my setup. I couldn’t say it was worth the price of admission. After I added the LHY SW6 and FMC it was must own. I’d say it makes sense for you now.
I did not know you have SW-6/FMC now. Do you use FO between the two? Optospan transceivers and FO cable will showcase them even better.
Yes. We’ve had the optospan discussion. I have TP link fiber modules and monoprice fiber. 60’ of fiber. Someday I may take the opto plunge but now the FMC with fiber to SW6 muon pro out of SW6 isolation port to Grimm MU1 is a big improvement.
