Seconding the Lan-8 NCF recommendation. Linkup Cat8 on Amazon is also a frequently-recommended budget choice.
The Cat 8 link-up is excellent. It plays quite balanced. I would prefer it to an Audioquest cable all the way to Vodka. The Supra Cat 8 would be a rich alternative, perhaps too warm. The Furutech plays precisely, the low frequency range is a little more reserved. The resolution is at a very high level. QED Reference is also said to be a decent cable. If you’re looking for something better than these cables, you’ll have to invest a lot more. Greetings Andreas

But will I still want a Muon Pro…?
Great suggestions, thanks! The Furutech is indeed less expensive than I was expecting. Sounds like it might have more of that Furutech precise sound (like DSS-4.1 or DPS-4.1, though I find DAS-4.1 to balance them nicely) which may be the wrong direction with my system, but it doesn’t cost too much to try.
I just saw your link now. These are your reviews of the Furutech DPS 4.1 and DSS? I read the reviews at the time and then bought the DPS 4.1 cable. Later I was able to try out the DSS speaker cable and bought it. Yes, the DPS-4.1 also offer decent permeability in the low frequencies. The Furutech Lan Cat 8 is a little more reserved in the low frequencies and is a good combination to curb the low frequency range of the DPS-4.1. I’ve had the Furutech Project V1 since a week. I would consider this a perfected version of the DPS-4.1. The high frequency range is smoother there is no longer the slight bloom in the upper low frequency range like with the DPS-4.1. It sounds more balanced. At the frequency extremes it seems even more unrestrained. But the DPS-4.1 is a cable that others first have to measure themselves against. And as a DIY cable, it’s a real power.
Greetings Andreas
Do you mean the taww.co reviews? Yup those are mine. I agree, the DPS is very open but the upper range can be a tiny bit coarse in some setups, and the bass can sometimes bloom a bit with some components as you say. If things get a bit out of whack with the Furutechs, I usually throw in some Kubala Sosna Temptation cables, which are a nice compromise of resolution/neutrality and just a touch of smoothness/warmth - somewhere between my Furutech and Audience Au24 SX cables, the latter being a bit too midrange-centric and not being in the same league resolution-wise. The power cord in particular works great when the DPS just isn’t clicking (the flexibility and lightness vs. the garden hose DPS is also appreciated). The Project V1 sounds very tempting! Incidentally for AES-EBU I am using the Digiflux NCF and it’s quite lovely, though I don’t have much to compare it to - DH Labs is just ok, and the “studio” cables I tried were hot garbage
I got mine on your recommendation- very happy with Furutech LAN 8!!
Thanks!
I like the Furutech Cat 8 Lan because my system has slightly too much low frequency range. Maybe it’s the speaker, the room in combination or the DPS-4.1 power cable. The Furutech Lan cat 8 conveys a slightly lighter bass range. It has a calm, noise-free background, does not smear or blur anything, and therefore shows a lot of detail in a pleasant way. In systems where the low frequency range doesn’t sound too thin from the start, the Furutech is a great choice. Expensive high-end cables at a higher price do not have an easy time outperforming the Furutech Lan cable. Greetings Andreas
Low-end fullness is honestly what is stopping me from taking the plunge on something like the Tempus switch. The comments I’ve seen seem to indicate it is super transparent but will lean on the lighter, more articulate side, which is the usual high-end aesthetic. I have the usual amount of bass lumpiness in my room that I’m partially EQ’ing in Roon, and the combo of Audiovector speakers + Mola Mola Makua + Gryphon Essence prioritize articulation over fullness.
The SW6 has been good in this regard - while it doesn’t have an obvious tonality, the improved resonance of voices and instruments increases the sense of fullness and naturalness. A little afraid of dumping nearly $4k on something that will no doubt be impressive, but make things even harder for me to balance out. I have no intention of upgrading my speakers or electronics anytime soon, and have only so much patience to try every power cord/cable/whatever under the sun. That said, George has my PowerZone so that’ll arrive soon…
Hi Donald - did you get your Muon? I am waiting for mine…
Andy
Thanks for the tip Andreas! Before considering higher tier lan cabling, I ordered this one yesterday and it just arrived. What a difference with the cat6 el cheapo cable that was between my router and SW-6 before!
A no brainer at this price point for an audiophile. Highly recommended.
I need to check with my dealer, and I heard there is a delay from one of the members here.
Which cable did you buy? The Furutech Lan Cat 8 or the link-up?
Greetings Andreas
Today I tried out different power cables and fuses for the LHY SW 6 Switch again. Although SW 6 is only used as a fiber optic player in front of my Melco S100 switch, which is directly in front of my streamer, I can hear the changes clearly.
Sorry for not being clear enough: I bought the Link-up.
I would consider the likes of Furutech already higher tier, although not really super expensive (still 6 times more expensive compared with the Link-up), considered what Stealths and Dragons may cost.
Now you got me stuck in this rabbit hole…
To be continued!
Unfortunately I also found PCs made difference on both SW-10 and SW-6 too.
The link-up is a good cable. I find it very musical and quite balanced. I compared it to an Audioquest Vodka. I found the low frequency range of the Link-up to be better defined than the Audioquest Vodka. And it costs just 1/10 of the Audioquest Vodka with similar performance. The Furutech is precise, but a little slimmer in the low end. The Furutech works well for me to calm down the low frequency range a bit. It offers high-end sound and has very good imaging without artifacts. The link-up will get even better after a few days. A good cable at an unrivaled price. The only downside is that it is very stiff. Greetings Andreas
I can happily wait for that improvement around the corner! My quick notes are: more depth, realism, clarity and better controlled, firm bass.
With my SF Guarneri Hommage, bass extension is not my first ‘concern’, but I can also see your point with some recordings and will keep your recommendation in mind. Thanks again!
Yes, the bass is nice and deep and tightly controlled. From what I remember, the depth of the soundstage gets somewhat better over time. Overall a great cable. No pretty packaging, just a plastic bag, but with a test report. You don’t see something like this with high-end audio cables. Have fun with your new cable. Greetings Andreas
Apologies if I missed it, but which particular LinkUp cable?
