never ends, even pricier rabbit holes
Never bothered to try a power supply mod itself. But different power cords do made a small difference in my setup. Also it doesn’t take external power bricks. But it has a FUSE!!!
If you have long ethernet cable runs, replace that with fiber into the SW6, and on your modem end, use a fiber media converter if you have to. then, the isolated network port from the SW6 to your streamer, that’s where I’d start.
Cheers
Yes at extreme cost.
And then you should not take the entry level.
I would like to see a comparison between the Ansuz and the LHY.
Thank you for your advice! I will obey!
I will position SW-10 in front of SW-6 so SW-6 is before the streamer to see if I like the sound better than the other way around. I have never compared individually to see which one I like better. But when they are together the sound seems nice.
My SW-6 just arrived. Fun!
Bet you like it. I have the LHY SW-8 and like it. A step down from the LHY SW-6, IIRC. The LHY SW-6 was released following the LHY SW-8 internet buzz.
IIUC, the SW-6 has an LHY built switch board while the SW-10 uses a Cisco enterprise level switch board. I’d have thought it would be the other way around.
Cisco has a storied history that one should not discount.
Oh, no doubt about that. I spent decades with systems built on Cisco gear. It just seems weird. They could have used a Cisco board on the SW-6. Would have been less money in the R&D.
Installed the LHY SW-6 tonight. It is currently sitting on its face. Oops.
I have two devices plugged into it. A Grimm MU2 and a BACCH-SP adio. The MU2 has a MUON Pro system hooked up to it. It needs no concern. The BACCH I plugged into the Isolated port. Right now I just have it plugged in to my home Network. Fiber can wait.
It would be hard to describe what I hear. Is it better than before? It isn’t worse. It sounds rilly good.
The device itself is wonderful. Alvin build quality. It deserves more respect than it is getting right now.
To confuse things, I reversed the direction of the MUON. I have been reading it is the new secret sauce.
Give SW-6 a few days to wake up from the long journey, and it should sound nicer. But I doubt it can compare with Muon Pro, then it would be the bargain of the century.
Don’t want to make things even more complicated but: give a try also putting the muon before the switch, upstream vs downstream.
In my case sounds nice but I have a different switch (both streamer and switch of the same brand - Innuos - makes a difference maybe).
Or better… do nothing and enjoy what you are listening to. Who really cares?!?!
I have to somehow involve the 3M Material into doing nothing though.
Wait!
I’ve got it!
I will have NOTHING to do with the 3M material!
Are two switches better than one? I was planning to move LHY SW-6 closer to the streamer ahead of LHY SW-10 (reverse from what I had before). But I tried just with SW-6 alone for fun. I use Shunyata Omega ethernet from the satellite to the isolated ethernet input of SW-6, then use FB from it to Lumin U2.
How do I like the sound? All I heard is noises! the clean and clear background turned into muddy grey. It is surprising how bad the sound became. So, these two switches with FB between them are the best solution still.
Next I will put LHY SW-10 back into the chain, but it will place behind SW-6 to see if I will like it better.
Welcome back to TweakLand, Donald! I missed your tests!
How was (is) your vacation? Now you have absorbed more water molecules that your system will sound even better.
I cannot fathom how any of that could be.
Me neither, but stranger thing has happened in the crazy streaming universe.
