M1200 Tube Rolling

Second evening with the new tubes and… and… they are still growing better and better.

Now I’m listening to David Gray Mutineers album CD and I can confirm that for what concern digital path the new tubes really outperform previous GNs. Already underlined their analog sound (studio performance and even better during live sessions) but now it seems the bass is emerging, clear, sumptuous, deeper and detailed. Directly into my chest but so pleasant and engaging, cozy and comfortable, warm and realistic. It’s like a concert played smooth, intimate and relaxed. In the same way the P20 can bring strength and control, headroom and calm. Think about the ocean before dinner, an immense quantity of water that makes you feel in peace, whispering and caressing the warm skin, anticipating sweet dreams in a lovely silent quite night. When the world appears a wonderful place, just now, just here…

Music is magic, pure emotion and lightness. And we need it so much!

When it comes to NOS tubes there are hits and misses for sure. The Telefunken is considered one of the best, and the “Mazda” 12AU7 made by Telefunken is just an amazing pairing with M1200s (better even than Telefunken smooth plate itself I felt), and they match very well with GL12au7 in BHK Pre.

With your hi-resolution system the SQ from these fine tubes will really shine, and if you got a true “new” pair then you are incredibly lucky. They are still improving I bet. Telefunken NOS has an exceptionally long life and 5k min. hours are quite normal. In that regard they are well worth the price.

Did you order another pair? I hope there are some left, you make me think getting more too, but I have three pairs already that should last for quite a few years, I hope.

Yes of course! I have just sent an order mail to Brent, I’m still waiting for his answer and quotation. Hope that this model will not become too soon a rarity (as always happens with the best things in our lives!). I can’t ever thank you enough for your advise Donald, another gift I received from this precious forum, a wonderful reign of respectable insane music subjects.

PS: highend-electronics just sent me notification that the AM M-1 (AKA The King) fuse has been shipped today, can’t wait!

Your particular situation (similar system setup) made the recommendation easy, and I am very happy to share my experince because I knew you will probably receive the similar SQ improvement as I have.

You helped my greatly too from your previous Dragon/Firebird/IC UPOCC comparsion. As a result both of us are happy with the Iconoclasts and ended up saving quite a bit money too!

I am still waiting for my AM M-1 fuse, and I am looking forward to your evalution on it. Have a great weekend!

Luca, it looks like we have written to each other talking about how great these tubes are so much that no one else cares anymore.

Soon we will start the M-1 fuse love letters, and hopefully @vmax will jump in too now that his fuse has finally broken in.

I care!

Though I still haven’t unboxed my M1200s, I placed an order with Brent, though his preference swayed me to the Telefunken medical grade tubes.

Please give us feedbacks. I have not tried those but the description looks very interesting :face_with_monocle:

I suppose they are the Red (or Green) tip medical grade priced 400 US$ matched pair, is it correct?

Reading their description on Brent’s website they shine for low noise and no microphonics. Congrats, it seems they are really great tubes.

Please let us know your thoughts as soon as you can compare them to stock tubes, enjoy your new M1200s, I hope you will find them wonderful in the same way we did.

Best wishes.

I’ll be sure to comment about them, but remember I need a few hundred hours on the amps just to get them most of the way towards broken in.

It may be a couple months…

Understood, you’ll need a longer time to break in the amps than tubes for sure😏

I bought a demo pair. Already burned in.

Tried the Mazda 12AU7. Very nice, but one tube went bad after 10 hours. So okd tubes that measure well do not guarantee nothing.

Using a pair of Belvue tubes now. As good SQ as the Mazda. Absolutely quiet.

Have Tronix and Miniwatt to try next.

I’ll revert to the Psvane but use the Ensemble Tubesox to see if this improves the SQ.

Ouch! I hope you did not pay too much for them. The bad tubes are always a high risk with these NOS.

Very interested to hear your experience with other tubes too!

Will be trying Mullard 12au7.
Love their EL-34 tubes

Noticed a tube was lit up with the normal blue hue, but while in standby when I got home yesterday. Anybody seeing this behavior? I’ve not noticed this before.

Continuously lit? Or temporarily lit?
And i believe that is a blue led light and not a tube. My blue led lights inside my M1200 go on temporarily whenever the power is either turned on or off

Took a close look, and def seemed like the tube was lit. I turned it off all the way when I noticed, but will keep an eye on it.
