I agree. I have a room that is 17x30 and don’t use a sub. But it really depends on your room and tastes. If I do put my sub on at low volume accentuating 25hz and below - the heartbeat at the start of DSOTM literally moves the walls. But I still keep it off as the mids and everything else just sound better
My room is a bass vacuum. I had to use subs with my PBS T3’s, Det Tech Mythos ST-L’s, Spatial M3 Turbo’s, Maggie 3.7i and even a Tekton Double impact SE pair.
I am currently using a Dynaudio Contour 20 pair with subs for now. I stole them from my office set up as my main room was speaker-less!!
TAS mentioned that the Legacy Audio Focus SE had mids like a planar! Anyone concur this?
I heard legacy audio ‘mini’ monitors at axpona last year. The bass was pretty tremendous. I thought the high end might have been a tad harsh - but for the money - these just seemed like a swell bargain with beautiful cabinets etc. and my comment on the high end is more of a ‘was it??’ comment whereas the bass comment was definitely so. The bass was ‘uh do you have a sub hooked up?’ type.
The Studio HD?
Yah. I believe that was it
Those are only 1795.00 a pair. So to impress at all at that price is interesting. I have my eye on the Whisper model. Open baffle
You are going to be able to listen right? These are so different than Maggie. They had a huge area at axpona. It wasn’t a hotel room - but one of those big conference meeting rooms where you might have a wedding reception.
The mags will be more spacious w floating images. My guess is these will have more grunt.
I know there is a pair of cherry / black 20.7 in the state I live. Sadly, the virus thing has stopped seller from allowing people in the home! Dammit! LOL
Hell yes!! LOL
Is that a ML sub?
Yes. It is. But I do not use it. I muscled it down there to see. Tried it for awhile. It’s just a preference thing. It’s a great sub btw.
Was that one servo controlled?
Hmm. I’m not sure it is the original Descent. Just checked the specs. Yes. Servo controlled. It has a 25hz volume control which I utilized
I run a pair of JL Audio F113V2. Run off BHK 300’s with high level transformer to XLR. Works AMAZING
Love my 3.7i speakers but they require power. I use a pair of Bryston monos to drive them. I also have a pair of Rel subs. No issue with range after adding them.
I’m not sure I will revisit the Magnepan thing. I sold my 3.7i about 1.5 months ago and had a deal on some local 20.7 before the virus hit. Since then I picked up some small bookshelf from Dynoaudio. I am rather impressed with them paired to the JL subs. I heard a few Martin Logans and I wasn’t a fan. So I’m not sure where I’ll end up. But once this pandemic is over it will be a fun journey.
Which Dynaudios did you get? Are you saying your are enjoying them more than your 1.7’s?
