This thread had derailed. In a very ps audio forum way. The way we all like it.
He’s had those tube traps for so long, I wonder how many times he’s had to empty them out…
There are certain artists I never allowed myself to see. David Bowie for instance. When I find someone who I think of way, way highly, I don’t give them a chance to let me down. I’ll never go see the Beatles I’ll tell you for sure!
I had to listen to Coltrane’s “Chasin’ the Trane” to fix that. Then I saw my desk and got in a loop.
I wished manufacturers would leave 100-300k turntables in my home for several years before other manufacturers come and leave theirs
That was going be my guess.
While we’re talking about esthetics, those glorious speakers look ridiculous in that little space.
But I bet they sound fantastic.
Talk of soundstage with speakers I can’t imagine there is any depth in the size of room and placement of those speakers.
He likes it so though. In Iowa they used to say…it’s like a saddle on a sow.
Not sure how well known this is, but Bowie was known to not miss a note. Lots of one and done takes.
Genelecs?
+1 for Pepsi and Pepsi products. Coke is of the devil.
And what is that little doo-dad on the lower right with the wire coming out of it that looks like it’s displaying album art?
Recently espied at Sam’s Club: (and, no, I didn’t get any. Yet.)
Here’s work. Does this count as cluttered? I think there’s a whole interesting thread in the clutter topic going forward. Like, my home audio room never is allowed to get cluttered because it’s also the guest room, where I need to stow my schtuff regularly. I’m never going to get good imaging when I have to take it apart and put it back together, am I?
I’m with you, Paul. My feeling is fit the speakers to the room, and the room to the speakers. Before the hiatus of home meets for my clubs, I’d seen and heard plenty of speakers that were either way too small or way too big for the room. And he may have a smile calling that aisle a “port”, but to me it just looks like a big chunk of asymmetry that throws off the basic acoustic balance of the room.
Having said that, I like Mikey. Met him a bunch over the years at shows, and always felt like I was treated as an equal.
That is my new Fiio R7 desktop headphone amp. Its a lot of fun.
Funny; after seeing Mikey’s video and knowing the total value of my entire system is likely no more than 15-20% retail of his Chronosonics alone, I appreciate my modest rig even more. I get immense enjoyment for it.
And for the record, I join the anti-clutter club on the thread. I wouldn’t want to be cramming all that gear and whatever else he has strewn all over his too small space in the living room of my 1 bd high rise pad. I find myself mostly interested in what professionals acquire at manufacturer accommodation prices … that’s one way he’s accumulated that bling … but in all honesty not lusting for it.
You must be a genius.
“He who is able to keep order is good, he who can oversee chaos is a genius.” (Or something like that) [Einstein].
I once worked with a guy at my current company who had a filing system consisting of huge stacks of paper on his desk, the floor, even partially blocked the door to his office. Much to the chagrin of our H&S people. He was revered. Knew where every paper in his ‘filing system’ was by stack and depth in the stack. Also something of a flake. I was told later I had made it through a right of passage by 1) resisting touching his stack(s) and 2) being able to handle his, ahem, ‘unique’ personality with a smile on my face.
I don’t get why Fremer draws such bile from web comments. I had a long talk with him at the Tampa show, actually more than once, about many things, some not related to audio. He couldn’t have been a nicer human being.
Perhaps I’ve missed some of his videos or comments that rubbed people the wrong way. His comments about Mike (who broke the story) doing the interview with Mofi might have come across as arrogant, but I totally understood his point about how an actual journalist might have asked more pointed questions.
