Misc. Ramblings

The wildlife in our yard when we lived in Texas, did not take pictures of the skunks, armadillos, snakes, scorpions and not to forget the squirrels that ate our Christmas lighting and internet line. They seem to love LED lights.

Amen!

Begin rant: A 4X8, .75 sheet of plywood at Home Depot was $60.this morning!. sixty bucks. wtf

Sobering.

At least lumber commodity prices peaked at the end of the first quarter and are dropping. (I do nor know what Home Depot is doing.)

A rather dated picture from the City of Five Goats, otherwise known as Guangzhou. On a guided tour run by the Chinese Internal Travel Service (do what they say, don’t ask questions). These goats are solid granite.

Another one here. I just got a 100’ roll of 10/2 with ground Romex for the princely sum of $235.00 +tax at Menards. Yeowzer.

Makes me happy our new home was framed by last July. My builder told me this week he would have to charge me $70k more this year to build the same house. We closed in October of last year.

Sadly true.
Today, I’ve been listening to the tortuous stories from politicians/msm about how we’re not really facing inflation currently, reality like the cpi,etc not withstanding.

They live in an alternative reality.

Inflation is ugly no matter what they say. The government never runs out of ink and paper either.

Metals are the same. A piece of tubing that I bought in December of '20 cost $135.00. Last week it was $400.00.

Prices of raw materials have gone up like crazy. My brother in law in Germany owns a carpentry company that builds furniture. They can not buy local grown wood anymore for reasonable prices, due to the extreme demand of China.

Just wonder what else is going to be exported eventually, jobs, materials, medicine production etc.

Globalization has many advantages, but also many disadvantages, which we typically tend to find out when it is too late.

Not only the raw materials prices have gone up crazy, but any material shipping from Asia has been delayed significantly too.

I ordered a AQ HDMI cable and it was delayed for three months. A golf club I ordered has been delayed until October. Both of them were due to materials delay shipping from Asia.
