Today was return to work day. I will order a new sheet of AB7050HF after i pece together the sound I want with my remnants and the new M-1. No hurry since new firmware could drop too. Then it might be whole new game.
I turned on my amps tonight. First listen today. No changes. Even with a bit murky mid bass. Such ease and soundstage. This is going to be a winner once fully tweaked similar to yours. I am sure I will find a twist or two more. Thanks for being the first to get out the 3M absorber!
You were the one that made me a believer from the great absorbent tweak. I surely hope you will find a solution to tame the brightness! MK2 is sounding so fabulous now and I really hope you will experience it like I do!
I added more 3MAB7050HF absorber to tid exterior. One piece extends from right forward edge to 1 3/4 inches past left edge of display back to where center bolt of power transformer.
Photos were cropped below to represent absorber sizes and locations relative to what’s inside below strips.
Next piece covers this swath of ribbon cable to Digital board.
Final piece covers two FPGAs with a rectangle.
Here is the uncropped photo.
The results are incredible. No more 179 Altero brightness. Incredible depth width and soundstage. Crystal clarity. Acoustics of the recording space. Defined textured and slamming bass. Disappeared speakers images defined and correctly sized for every voice and instrument Plus floating images where they are mixed as such.
Most of all can play any song any genre at any volume with enjoyment and not wishing to turn down volume.
Finally got the MK2 DAC I thought I was buying and desired.
I will let it ride here before installing 3M absorber internal.
Digital music with nothing but WOW.! Thanks @tedsmith
This is all done on the lid from exterior, right? So, you are using bigger pieces than mine. I may try it since I have a few pieces left. Right now, mine sounds rather good. I was thinking the next step may be going interior with AB7050. But I do not want to be the first one to try it yet.
Nothing but on the exterior lid. I took a power cord tunig ring laying flat for FPGA. Plus i did not trim piece over display so it extends over3/7inch. I haveen using my Wisper Powercord Qobuz playlist.
It just sounds incredible. All unit needs is RF and EMF absorption a aftermarket fuse and good power cord USB and HDMI shorted. Matrix feeding HDMI with AQ Dragon
You should try the larger pieces like I did. No mid bass muddy and soundstage explode every direction.
OMG!!! I placed bigger pieces, and the sound is so clean! Thank you tweak master!
I am going to play with the sizing and more precise placement now…
Well done…“a picture is worth a thousand words”…
…but I don’t understand the third image.
Are the FPGA chips covered with pieces cut to size of the chips (more or less) and simply placed over same?
SEE
This is kinda fascinating to follow.
Ted had previously said (not sure if in this thread or elsewhere) the folks modding the DS2 are doing things that won’t make any major difference (or words to that effect). Wonder if he will change his opinion if these prove out
It’s half of a 2 by 8 inch tuning ring laying on covering FPGA chip real estate below cover. The excess is over hanging left side for now outside.
These are just tweaks. Only component replaced was PS Audio stock fuse. Rest are additional noise reduction. Passive modding.
It’s like taking a blanket off the speakers that no longer exist.
I am using my existing leftover, so the sizing is different from yours. But I really like the result!
I placed two 3x3s (3x6 total) on top of the display, so the length is a bit wider than the display and control. Then I put two 2x1s behind the big sheet to cover the flat cable. Finally, I added a 2x3 (I think) on the back where I think the analog chips are located. The sound is cleaner with more details, and like you said the mid bass is clean and tight now.
MK2 sounds just so fabulous now and it is incredible how it reacts to tweaks.
Everything gained a toe tap ability factor that had been missing since I put the Modded DS away. But this with absorber additions just goes way beyond anything I have experienced anywhere.
The front piece is 81/4 long.
Please try the M-1 Fuse relative to Purple. . I am wondering if you will still like purple now the mids are cleaned up.
I will switch between PST and MK2 tomorrow. We are having a big storm now so no golf tomorrow. It’s very possible M-1 will be favorite again.
Mine is already on the way but I feel I might not need it anymore. But might as well give it a go. The Beeswax Ultimate SHD seems very balanced as it was in the DS.
I’m sure the air Lens will need a better fuse as did all my streaming LPS did.
It would be awesome if you’d take some pics of the top of your MKII’s to include a tape measure or ruler in the photo for reference. Suddenly I find myself terrible at the word problems you two are presenting…
Thanks!
The problem there is the Preamp is sitting on top of MKII. I have to rock it back to even clear the space. Let me draw it out then provide dimensions on the drawing. Polygons of absorber perhaps.
Fantastic. I really appreciate it. I had forgotten that you stacked some of your gear.
