New Arrivals

You’re ripping 44.1k layer, not the SACD right?

Correct.

dBpoweramp and my Disc drive cannot pull the DSD layer from the SACD.

First listen happening now c/o the PSA DMP Transport feeding my modified DS Sr. via the I2S connection.

Ms. Mintle steals the show on this recording.

“Don’t Think Twice” is fabulous.

FYI.

The latest arrival has tunes that are mesmerizing, I especially like “Close To You” by the Seth Lewis Trio. The DSD256 on this recording really sounds so close to top end vinyl, it’s hard to believe. As usual, Octave knocked it out of the park with this one!

Yes, I was just playing the DSD256 version and with the Blue Sky update, all the DSD256’s from Octave Records is just blowing my mind, they’re that good!! I now can turn up the volume more than before because the sound is so natural with so much irritants and distortions gone after the update.

Scott, why are you not getting the DSD256 versions, they cost the same. Believe me, your’re getting much more of what’s in the recording from the DSD256 versions.

I prefer to own the physical discs.

Once upon a time, the SACDs also came with “data discs” with several high resolution formats.

I would pay extra for getting each type of disc in a single package, but Octave Records apparently has no plans to offer these packages again.

Depending on the quality of the recording engineering, I agree that DSD 256 can sound great.

Cheers.

Yes, I remember the “data discs”, but they were still only single rate copies, the quad rates availabe now are at another level, fidelity wise. You really should try some quad rates when you can and see what you’ve been missing.

does DSD 256 sou d better than an SACD?

In my system, there’s no doubt. Even files I ripped from SACD sounds better than the original SACD. It’s not always that way. It’s just that my Esoteric streamer is miles ahead in sound quality than my PST SACD transport. But I can say, generally DSD256 has a more at ease sound with higher resolution than SACD.

Holy smokes! Got all emotional listening to Hallelujah (started lisyening with that song), then was totally startled when the sax moved around in 3d back and forth as he blew (heard the air coming through too)…Felt like I was sitting there with the string quartet too… and this is on a really budget SACD set up (Sony blu ray player) via P10 powered DSD DAC Mk1, BHK 250, and BMR Philharmonic Monitors w/a Rel S/510 sub.

Now am gonna have to try to figure out how to download and play through my Innuos Zen Mk3 because everyone keeps saying DSD256 beats SACD - wow.

This old analogue guy just got schooled in the art of digital hifi!

wish I could get 256 from my innuos zen mk3 through my PSA DS Dac mk1… time for a DAC upgrade perhaps… love esoteric, still have one of the first DV50s ever manufactured (got it when living in Japan so different voltage and Japanese remote lol) - catching dust now tho.

You can get DSD256 to your MK1 if you update to Sunlight firmware and use an USB to I2S converter like the Matrix 2 running a HDMI cable to your DAC. I2S input on the MK1 sounds a whole lot better than USB input anyway.

have Sunlight, just need the USB to I2S converter… incoming next! mahalos for that info. wonder if any japanese hifi make that… search is on

I have been running a matrix 2 for many years. Just got my first Matrix 3. There may be Matrix 2 units available here. You could buy one and ignore all the power supply upgrade option. A better USB cable and a better HDMI (I2S) cable may provide benefits. But just getting a Matrix 2 or 3 should be nice.

mahalos - was wondering if 3 would be better sonically or not. if not the 2 are discounted (discontinued too?) now so would order new
