Why don’t manufacturers use big transformers anymore, my amp is 30 years old and the transformer has almost double the va of these new 600 watt monoblocks combined. Are the modern toroidal transformers that much more efficient?
Here is an article albeit from a manufacturer but still very informative.
Hope this helps
My amp has a 5,000 va toroidal transformer, I was just wondering if the current production toroidal transformers are that much better than the toroidal of 30 years ago.
Great question…idk…but perhaps there have some minor gains in
toroidal transformer desig and materials…
Best wishes
Serhan…didn’t know you were a wiseacre like some of us around
these here neck of the woods
Best wishes
New product page isn’t posted yet but the BHK 600 owners manual is online.
And Unboxing BHK 600 video
Would be REALLY nice if the BHK 600 could get “added on” to the currently running PerfectWave sale…30% off…I think I’d be in on that
Give them a call. Who knows maybe they’ll grant your request.
Paul is right, give them call. They would work with you.
If you have BHK 300’s, they are offering a great trade in.
.
Guessing that’s going to be an I2S connection or some sort of Audio umbilical from a future Pre.
Each BHK 600 has only two fuses. Four fewer than the BHK 300’s. Fuse rollers delight!
Mentioned in a video that this is a future product currently very unknown to the public.
I heard Peter mention that same thing in the unboxing video. Not quite sure what it could be, I have a hard time thinking it would be better than an XLR/balanced cable. Unless … it’s something fiber optic based. Straightwire, do you have your 600’s yet? If you do, what kind of connector is that?
100% guaranteed it’s not an XLR substitute or digital (optical) cable. Why? There’s nothing wrong with XLR. There isn’t a DAC and a preamp inside a 600.
Probably some data connection to trigger standby on/off.
It does look like mini headphone Jack. I agree maybe a subwoofer out to a PS Audio subwoofer.
I’m assuming its a trigger + a 1-wire data for feedback (which trigger doesn’t have). It can probably tell the “octave network” what state the Amp is in… maybe it can provide more data than that (tube hours, wattage meter, ?) but I wouldn’t expect much coming from the Amp itself. Of course, giving all PS gear a path to talk to each other is neat… there just isn’t a whole lot exciting I need from my amp.
Now, the fact it has a USB port for “upgrades” means it at least has some intelligence which can be, possibly, expanded in future. And… if we really want to get wild… start thinking in terms of bias adjustment… component value compensation … hmmmm But probably not that fancy. It would be nice to know a little more as it could sway me to upgrade.
Also, having a switch for SE / Balanced is nice… Is that total isolation? Could you plug both in and effectively have 2 inputs at the flic of the switch?
Good guess.
5 minutes into vid and all I’ve learned is to cut a strap and wheel it close. Don’t have another 28 minutes for this pace of info. Can someone who watched summarize the high points?
Edit: didn’t mean to sound snarky and I’m sure the pace picks up at some point (maybe James pulls out in front), but in all seriousness what are the high points?
The highlight for me was the innovative packaging of the product, which included a handy dandy handle and wheels.
I’m sure the amp sounds amazing, but with 93 db speakers that aren’t going anywhere soon, the need for 600 watt mono blocks aren’t on my radar screen.
