No big deal. Blame it on the dead bug. A $400 PS4 and $11/month streaming content subscription is enough to keep me happy. Press the play button, PS4 plays whatever I want to listen to. Sounds good. Simple.
Cool. That’s not a solution for me, I have thousands of discs and the PMD is the ticket for me.
Brodiricj - You should be sure to send your list of issues to Dennis to be sure they aren’t things that can be sorted out. Otherwise, I would return the DMP for a new one. That’s unacceptable.
But - if a PS4 streaming makes you happy, why would you want to buy a DMP?

I bought the DMP assuming it would work…the PS4 makes me happy because at least it works. Anything that works is better than anything else that doesn’t work. I’m having one of those here we go again moments, I’ve had a lot of new PS Audio stuff over the years that either arrived DOA or had some manufacturing defect or broke down in-warranty (at least 10 pieces now). It’s always been fixed before, without any fuss, and I’m sure it will get fixed this time. In the meantime I just revert back to my stuff that works, and not worry about the DMP too much.
brodricj said 1. If you change the DMP configuration settings via the webUI then "save config", whilst the DMP is initialising you get this wretched sound like an alien spaceship coming in to land. What is this??? I was a beta tester for the DMP and have followed the threads here very closely. I have never heard of a web UI for the DMP. Paul?
2. DMP is registered in MyPS, SD card is installed but on the touchscreen display it's showing no SD card installed.
The DMP does not respond to any of the Transport buttons on the DSJ remote control.
I can see a small insect laying deceased in the bottom of the PS Audio logo power button. How to open the button so I can extract said deceased insect?
I would definitely contact PSA support about these three issues. As Frank said, for #2 be sure you put the card facing up, unlike all other PSA gear.
5. Operation of the touchscreen is flakey,The touchscreen is slower than I would consider ideal. As one of the beta testers said, "The DMP does not like to be rushed." Give it plenty of time after each touch. If that doesn't solve your issues, that's another thing to discuss with support.
6. Operation of the dim button on the remote is whacky. The screen brightness levels can't be controlled from the remote; all the remote can do is turn the display on/off. Brightness levels are controlled in the setup menu. You can turn the display on again with the On button. The same is true of the DS Senior and the BHK preamp. It sounds like the Jr can control brightness via the remote and that will create conflicts with other PSA gear; PSA needs to sort this out.
My DMP just arrived… -25 last night. I have a black ice cube!
I think I will let it warm up for a bit before playing with it.
Yes, indeed. It sounds like something’s amiss. Especially your comment the touch screen is flakey and it is not responding to the remote - unless…is there any chance you’re using the old remote? The DMP won’t work right with the old remote. Make sure it’s the same one we shipped to you - with the silver metal face.
brodricj said My DMP is functionally not working... If I press play/pause/stop on anything with play/pause/stop buttons I expect it to play/pause/stop first time every time. DMP doesn't. My short time with DMP is over for now. It can relax in the store room until the next software update gets posted, then I'll give it another try. Will be very interested to hear if your touchscreen issues resolve after the next firmware update. Mine had similar issues during the beta testing, and I returned it before Christmas for a replacement (which is still a few weeks away from getting here), also so Dennis could have a hands-on with it. So far no word back about the old unit and whether a fault was isolated to explain the flakiness of the touchscreen.
With respect to brodricj’s issue #3, while not necessarily related, I have noticed that the DMP remote is a little more particular to the direction it is pointed in comparison to the DS remote. I say this since I had a PWD and upgraded to a new DS (rather than get the upgrade kit) since it had a wider angle remote sensor. I immediately noticed the DS remote operation was better than the PWD. Now that I have the DMP remote, I seem to back where I was with the PWD remote in terms of sensitivity. I sometimes have to hit a command two or more times to get it to work. You win some (sound quality) and you lose some (remote sensitivity).

Make sure it's the same one we shipped to you - with the silver metal face.I have 2 silver metal face remotes. The DMP only responds to about 1 in 6 or 7 commands sent from either remote, although one remote seems to be better than the other. Sometimes I might get lucky and it responds to 2 consecutive commands. The touch screen operation is also problematic, sometimes it freezes and sometimes it works. Erratic operation is not something I can live with, so the DMP can have a rest in the comfort of the store room until the next software update is available.

Yes. DMP has a basic webUI for status and network configuration, but it does not support control functions. I guess they could build a control GUI for it, perhaps even a control App. But for me at this moment I have no reliable control method for the DMP. It does't matter how good it might sound, my patience with its erratic control behaviour ran out after 2 hours. Play/Pause/FFW/REW functions must be reliable, and the device should not be prone to operational freezes.magister saidbrodricj said 1. Another issue I’ve noticed with the touchscreen is a horizontal scroll band from top to bottom about 4 scrolls/second, with the brightness band about 1/10th the height of the screen. The touchscreen in any of my P5, P10 and DS didn’t exhibit this behaviour.
brodricj the problems you are experiencing do not sound like they will all be fixed by a software update. Why not take the unit back and request a replacement?

Why not take the unit back and request a replacement?I'm a PS-believer, I have faith, I can wait to see what the next software brings. In the meantime I can still play music perfectly well with other hardware I have on-hand here.
I’m sure that the next firmware release will be an improvement. But I do agree with Frank that what you’re experiencing probably goes beyond firmware-related issues; maybe a defective touchscreen. And having only one out of six presses on the remote take effect when you are aiming straight at the DMP is not something that others have reported.
magister said But I do agree with Frank that what you're experiencing probably goes beyond firmware-related issues; maybe a defective touchscreen...There shouldn't be a defective anything onboard after it completes QA at the factory. It arrived with these problems, touchscreen has issues, remote has issues, SD doesn't work. I also had issues with my DSJ, loose metal fasteners floating around inside the chassis, I could hear them jiggling around in the gizzards of the new unit when I unpacked it. Obviously a risk of shorting out something electrical should the wayward metal bridge any components inside.
I wasn’t involved with the DMP beta, and I didn’t follow the DMP beta thread in the forum very closely either. In delaying my purchase until now I thought I’d be sufficiently isolated from early-production units to be confident of getting a good build. I don’t recall any touchscreen or functional issues with P5/10 or DS and I got early builds of all of those.
In the light of a new day I’ve taken a fresh look at this DMP again and it’s still exhibiting the functional issues as previously described. Disappointing.
In DMP Mk2 a simple display with up/down/left/right/menu/enter hard buttons on the facia would presumably obviate a chunk of software and provide some robustness in operation. Putting the stepper motor type rotary control knob on DSJ and getting rid of the touchscreen was a stroke of genius. My DSJ seems rock solid for now.
I agree with frank 7036, there is no guarantee the next update will fix your DMP. Just because it got the green light passing through quality control … My PWT passed through quality control and arrived with a defective mechanism… My BHK Pre-amp: - the display stopped working not long after taking delivery… The components on the micro-processor were fried… I removed the micro-processor and during doing it I discovered there was no slack/free movement on the ribbon cable – I removed the transformer and the ribbon was trapped solid beneath the transformer and the tray – I checked the ribbon for continuity and there was a short on same…! P S Audio sent out new parts and after fitting said parts all was well… The BHK Pre-amp passed through quality control because, I guess, the short hadn’t manifested at that time…!
I have no gripe with P S Audio because shit happens… The wonderful musical quality of the BHK more than compensated for the frustration I encountered at the very start of ownership…
If it was me I would be doing more than just waiting and hoping the next update will make your DMP function properly.
What do these unusual boxes and characters on either side of the track title signify?
