New Network Switch: LHY AS-6

Another good sign. I decided not to cancel my order. Just got a shipping notice.

Really? Since RealNetworks was established? I played around with that in the mid-90s, but didn’t get too far into it until I got a SlimP3.

Ha, I mean since LHY SW-10 Pro got here since…I don’t remember. I only remember what happened up to two hours ago.

Hmm, the first post was blocked, and it was replying to me. Anyway, I changed the fuse inside SW-10Pro with a M-2. I did not hear much difference. The only other component that did that to me was Grimm MU2. Does this mean they are too good to have a need for after-market fuses? I need more time, more than two hours.

The Grimm products MU1/2 aren’t affected by fuses in my experience but power cables can have a huge impact on the sound.

I have taken out the finisar 1318 and replaced it with the LHY standard SFP.
With the 1475 in the audioside this combo works best for me. Very quiet, no grain, great micro dynamics, very musical.

Pity the second 1475 I have is not in use as it does not work in the dataside

Not yet changed the fuse, but using a nice Ansuz C powercord.

I do not know what Alvin is relating to other people- but to me, he highly recommended NOT to replace the inner SFP modules in the SW-10pro. He said what he chose is optimized for the unit. LEAVE IT ALONE.

The AM M2 fuse has become one of those de facto standards, at least on this forum. We all know fuses make a difference and this one seems to let things thru with the least harm.
So, you buy the next best thing and the fuse is the expensive icing on the cake. Doesn’t matter if you realize an improvement or not, you just don’t want to be in “what if” limbo.

So, with 1475 in audio side, Finisar 1318 did not sound as great as the LHY SFP in your system. This is quite interesting. I can play with my two 1318s with the stocks. Now that is a fun tweak.

Yes prefer the standard LHY over the 1318 in the dataside, 1475 in audioside is important.

1318 in the dataside sounds more impressive then the standard LHY at first glance, very dynamic (macro) but after awhile I was missing the refinement, better imaging and calmness of the standard LHY SFP, offcourse all testing with the 1475 at the audioside

This is good to know. I put back the stock SFP a few minutes ago. These are too new and need time to break in obviously. Otherwise, I would think they sounded a bit bright and missing the precise imaging. However, this is typical for any new component in my system.

Tomorrow after golfing I am very sure I will hear better sound. These stock SFPs could be potentially better than 1318.

It might be the combo standard/1475 that have synergy.
AS8 completly standard was good (had it next to a SW10 at my dealer), but soundstage, imaging and refinement got much better after adding the 1475.

Have to say I did not yet try the 1318 at the audioside

I am surprised that LHY SFP sounds so like 1318. Alvin picked a very strong SFP to use. I do not think most users will need to use 1318. However, 1475 10G works in audio side is good to know. Being a tweaker (as I was called now), I am curious to find out how1475 will work with SW-10Pro, if works at all. I found one on Amazon to try. The good thing about buying it from Amazon is that I could return it.

In principle I would like two identical SFP’s in the AS8, now I am mixing SFP’s, 1gbit/s vs 10gbit/s, fabry perrot laser vs DFB laser.

Anyway, really like what the AS8 is doing in my system with some SFP rolling, definitly an upgrade

If you get a new 1475, give it at least a full day, out of the box it did a lot well, but a bit harsh, that dissapears completely when burned in.

At first I got the impression it sounded less detailed with the 1475, but that is not the case, highs are much cleaner, no grain (less jitter ?)

Great, I’ll try one.

Hi Olly

Do you have more details on the model number for the Finisar 1475? It seems that there are a few different codes (eg, finishing in BCL, BCV, BTL etc)

Thanks!
Phil
