New Network Switch: LHY AS-6

Congrats on your fabulous system. I believe your assumptions are correct regarding Muon Pro and either switch! I am envious of the Gryphon Powerzone from what others have said of it. I will have to stay with P20. I pulled the trigger a bit quick with AS8 Pro, otherwise I’d have got the AS10 Pro which I wasn’t aware of at the time of order.

Little steps next for me for now, but next big steps will be a toss up between PMG DAC & Pre, versus MU2. I also use my room as a home theatre so the pass through for home theatre makes the Pre attractive.

now you’re talking

Was literally about to hit submit on the Muon Pro order, when I noticed that USD is -12% YTD vs. GBP… yikes. Should have ordered it during the last presidential term here…

Anyway, back to more regularly scheduled programming. Fairly certain I will order an AS10 Pro over a Tempus. But after the Muon Pro. Which gives me time to wait for someone to compare the two, though even if Tempus comes out on top by a hair I’d probably still get the LHY. In the meantime, in my second system waiting to get the SW6 as a hand-me-down, I will also swap out my Ubiquiti PoE switch in the telco closet for an old low-tech DLink, maybe with a iFi iPowerX supply. I only have one PoE device on that network, and it’s 2.5G which the PoE switch doesn’t support anyway. Not sure what I will do with all these extra PoE switches I have lying around now…

I just got home today and changed the input to my AS8-Pro from RJ45 to SFP using a Finisar 1318 to the data input.

Allowing for me having been away, my distinct initial impression was of a bigger, deeper soundstage. For those who have BACCH, I think we could call it a “BACCH-ometer”.

High end was a bit muddled and flattened initially but hard to say as I had the system stone cold off whilst I was overseas (in case of thunderstorms).

Anyway, after a few hours, I feel that the SFP input to the AS8-Pro is another step up. More detail, soundstage, focus and decay. Again, this is just the external data input. I have not opened my AS-8 Pro, and presently not compelled to do that. I like what I’m hearing so far and will let that settle in. I really missed my system whilst away!

Hello. The internal OXCO Clock in the AS 8 Pro: What is when i switch off the power button on the AS 8 Pro: When i switch it on how long does it go until the oxco Clock is correct in time? Sometimes is must switch off the AS 8 Pro because i must put in another place or change the cord etc. Thanks Andy.

I suspect it is correct in time rather soon, especially after a warm start.

But correctness stability probably takes some heating as the clock is ‘oven controlled’, ie presents a constant temperature to the clock mechanism for clock performance stability.

From cold start, perhaps a half hour. I warm up things up for an hour before play.

Thanks. My next question: I have a internal clock in the AS 8 Switch, a internal clock in the Aries G1.1 streamer, and a internal clock in the T+A DAC. Is this “no sense”? Or have i also in this setup benefits with the AS 8 inernal clock? Today in audio streamers and most dacs there are clocks.

I asked this a few weeks ago

Response was you can’t have too many clocks

Unsatisfying answer but satisfactory answer over my head without credible information and even published peer reviewed measurements

Have you tried connecting the switch and the Aries?
The sound might benefit from synchronising the two.
It’s working on my SW10 and RS130.

No. The Auralic G1.1 has not a inpout or outpout for clock. My question is if i have a benefit when in the AS 8 Pro is a good internal clock in a setup with clock in stramer and DAC. And if i have a benetif form the fibre in the AS 8 Pro when my DAC has a galvanic isolation.

Less likely. Your chain consists of independent devices, with your streamer between switch and dac.
Ideally, you would want each to be equally good or otherwise, each device upstream at least a little bit better.

Does anyone know the ohm rating for the clock inputs on the SW-6 and SW-10? I think they are 50ohm but can’t find much online or a manual to confirm.

It is 50 ohms, and LHY makes a 50-ohm clock cable. But you do not have to use theirs.

I got my SW-10Pro today. Using it with Muon Pro afterwards.

I was wondering if someone can explain the ground/float switch. Do I switch to ground when using the circular grounding post below the switch to physically ground the switch or is there no relationship between the switch and whether or not I use the grounding post below it.?

Would you let us know if using the SW10 pro still requires the use of the muon pro?

When hooking up the sw-6 to the clock the led next to the clock input is green. On the SW10 the LED is orange. Should it also be green?

Do you mean the light in the back? I believe orange is right for SW-10. How do the combo sound? What streamer do you use?

Yes. The light in the rear.

I’m using an Eversolo A8 for streamer and PS Audio DSD Sr. for DAC.

Sounds really good. Just got it hooked up so I imagine it will settle in over the next few days. Can’t believe it cleaned up the signal even more.

BTW, the stock cord in the box is brand new since I never used it. SW-10 needs a good power cord to show its best!

SW-10 is quite a bit better than SW-6, with a clock link and FO link they will clean up the signal chain quite a bit.

Yeah. I’m impressed. I’m using upgraded Audioquest power cables on each. On the SW-6 I’m using a SWFB graphene sluggo. I’ll add one to the SW-10 soon.
