Have not tried the SW-10pro alone yet. I want everything to burn in for one whole week before any conclusions or playing around with options.
I only used a LHY Clock cable, and I have not tried others. The improvement was minor so I did not want to spend too much on a clock cable.
Keen to hear your impressions! I have the SW8 Pro which I bought just before hearing about the SW-10 Pro!
If you’re using a grounding box, the switch should be set to float. The ground post is used to enable star-grounding across your system.
This a nice explanation and layout of the SW10 pro on the Vinshine website. The SW10 p is https://www.vinshine.audio/vinshine-x-sw-10pr
cheaper on beatechnik.com.
Did you do the currency conversion for Alvin’s website?
Alvin has 2 web sites.
Vinshine presents Singapore dollar prices (final US price will vary dependent on currency conversion at the time of order). Beatechnik presents US dollar prices (for US visitors)…this is actual US price that will be augmented with tariff tax upon checkout. No currency conversions here.
Can anyone explain to me what’s the point of the SFP Optical Isolation between the Green Zone and the Red Zone when both zones share a single Ground-plane???
wouldn’t this apply to external sfp/fiber use as well?
it is said that wires pick up high frequency noise, which fiber is supposed to eliminate (I can’t figure out how fiber/sfp distinguish noise from audible music frequencies).
Has anyone tried the SW-10pro or AS-8 with 1318 modules INSIDE the unit on both sides and how does it compare to the stock modules?
I have a set of 1318, but I am not ready to put them in yet since I am trying other things in my system. I also ordered a Finisar 1475 to try later.
I added a Xangsane grounding box, and flipped the ground switch to float. I like it so far.
Thanks. Awaiting a report on a complete changeover to 1318 is worth it.
I changed my fuse, added isolation feet and put a top power chord- that’s it- but the changes of all three are substantial. I agree FLOAT sounds better than GROUND- but doesn’t using float without star grounding connection by way of a wire mean I have no grounding protection?
These grounding boxes are confusing since they are not really protecting components from voltage surge, I believe. My understanding is that they are designed to drain the noise from components, but do they also drain the voltage surge too? I do not know enough to answer.
The one thing I really miss with my P12, is when tubes are connected, with a power outage, I have a delayed startup to prevent the power amp from rushing back on from a short (say 1/2 second to a few seconds) power outage
Same here with my P15, and now I have a PowerZone power strip instead. I unplugged the power cord when I was on vacation.
I think FLOAT means the opposite of ground- meaning NO grounding- which means no protection from an electrical surge. That setting is meant only of the unit is grounded using a physical wire to another component. Just makes sense. Not sure…
That sounds about right.
Why not try a few SFP’s yourself and choose the ones suiting your system
Because these modules cost money and I prefer to hear from others who experimented. That is one of the big values to this forum. Hard to believe no one has tested 1318 on both sides yet considering it is such a well respected module and Alvin’s choice as well.
Yes but a while ago you said “leave it alone”, and now you are awaiting reports.
