New Network Switch: LHY AS-6

Wow- your right. Thanks for pointing that out.

I’m sure that’ll be a fair and unbiased comparison :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

so much peer pressure in here! it’s like Mean Girls with middle-aged/post-retirement men and 5-figure audio equipment. I am not sure I want to tie up $5k+ to be the guinea pig… we’ll see if the pressure gets to me…

P.S. Did the price of the Tempus go up again? Or is that due to the MkII supply upgrade?

P.P.S. Ordered Muon Pro. Damn you all…

I think the factor effecting NA pricing most is the exchange rate
(currently 1.345 USD vs. the Pound) plus the 10 % imposed tariff.

NA’s counsel to me was to place a MuonPro System BETWEEN my audiophile switch (LHY AS-6, they tell me they know the LHYs well) and the streamer (AirLens in my case). They also told me that the Muon and LHY audiophile switch complement each other, one does not replace the other.

from what I gather in this forum, the Bacch accomplishes more than network filters and audiophile switches combined, thus perhaps making sense to get the cleanest signal possible into the noisy computer

Does someone have a link to a “proper” BAACH setup? Haven’t looked into it at all and am curious what it requires, e.g. would I in parallel move my Roon Core to the Mac running BAACH?

The listed GBP price seems higher than I recall though… maybe I am imagining things but I thought it was under £3k before…

My days of SFP rolling are over, initially I bought 2 Finisars 1475D3BTL’s to install them inside the AS8. That did not work, still think LHY dropped the ball with the SFP+/dataside switch. Tried a few other SFP’s in the audioside of the AS8 and still liked the 1475D3BTL best.

The standard LHY SFP’s seem to be (educated guess) Huawei (34060487).
When discussing the specifications of the standard SFP compared to the 1475D3BTL with a good friend (IT specialist) he told me they don’t match very well technically, and advised me to try the Finisar FTLX1475D3BCV which matches better with the standard SFP in the AS8.

The Finisar FTLX1475D3BCV sounds very nice, better PrAT and transients (musicality) and only slightly less refined.

Now back to music listening instead of the technical listening of the last few weeks. Happy with the purchase of the AS8, nice upgrade compared to my previous Melco S100

The switch that really peaks my interest is T-S100 Gigabit Network Switch (Teradak). Looks like it could be on the SW-10pro level for much less. Not sure of course.

I think it’s tariff related.

I thought you ordered Tempus, but it is only a Muon Pro. Well, we still do not know how do the two compare.

I have 1475D3BCV in the Audio zone now on SW-10pro, but I really do not know if it sounds better than stock, or 1318. I may do SFP rolling after my big amp is done burning in.

I have one into my streamer and one into my BACCH-SP. Both from the switch.

It’s possible to to run Roon server on the Bacch. I choose not to.

All SFP’s sound different, 1318 I have sold already, don’t understand why this one is recommended. Because the 1318 is 1Gbit/s it does work in the dataside.

The BCV in the audioside is the best option at the moment, IMHO

Then I probably will just leave it inside SW-10Pro. I remember when I first put it in the next day the system sounded really good.

Then the big amp showed up, and I lost the desire to change anything. I hope the same feeling will last me for a few years  Yeah, someone is already laughing hard on that comment. But it will take sometime before I get bored for sure.

Yes, everything helps, including upgraded PC.

@taww

Prof Edgar Choieiri advised me to move my Roon core from my Roon Nuc to the Mac Mini running BACCH, which I did. As @aangen says, it’s optional and meant one less device with LPS on the shelves.

My preference is to reduce the load on my Bacch as much as possible so it can run cooler and not be taxed. I may be overthinking it.

I plan on keeping my next “device” for a good while. At least 10+ years.

I am however going to start a journey in my office by slowly acquiring all of the First Watt amps and play them through a Pass Labs XP12 Pre out to a pair of Proac Tablette 10 Signatures. I figure that will take 10 years or so .
