New PS Audio PST Transport is coming

Makes more sense than cassette tapes.

I have a few backup transports, some pretty darned good, none nearly as good as the DMP and PWT which luckily have in great working order in two systems now.

I noticed that the Luxman CD player that I listened to today plays SACD. I wonder what transport they use? Probably the same Marantz.

At least in their top models Luxman uses a transport mechanism of their own design.

The Sept. TAS has a review on Luxman D-07X Cd/Sacd player. It seems nice!

Ha - one of my favourite films

A few folks I know are gathering DVDs to them, in the same way as some gathered up LP collections being dumped in the 90s and early 2000s.
We decided to hang on to our DVDs…

…if genuinely no one is making the drives then there will be a problem, but then, it is a variation of a problem we all share - history is now being recorded on spinning discs of one sort or another, and not paper. Not so easy to read in some future archeological adventure!

The Luxman D-10X sounded nice last time I heard it. I believe it is knocking on the door of $17k.

The transport mechanism is an inhouse design, from their website:

Everything about the Luxman components felt jewel-like.

…and the sound. What is your honest opinion?

Without actively listening for the purpose of comparing, all that we would normally do, I would say that I could be very happy with the Luxman integrated and CD player that I listened to.
The Luxman rig was very smooth, grainless, pure, inoffensive without anything obviously missing throughout the range. Buying the Luxman gear could not be considered a mistake.

That sums up my impression nicely, as it offers up a non-offensive listening experience, providing insight into inner detail. A nice alternative to Accuphase IME, offering a bit more detail. Their integrated amplifiers are more of a convenience item than end game. My L-509X will be going up for sale after Labor Day. The consolidation and downsizing continues. I’ll probably hook it up to my Sabrina X speakers for giggles before I send it on its way.

Again congrats on the Watt Puppy 50th Anniversary speakers.

So question in light of this. I was looking to purchase either the PST or the last SACD memory transport. If I could potentially run into an issue down the line, would I be better off spending a couple thousand on the older one knowing it should be a significant upgrade from coming from an Oppo BDP 83-SE with my GCD DAC? That way I don’t put out 4500-6500 now and then have to start all over again 5-10 years from now? Or would it really be worth the extra to invest in the new one with the uncertainty?

Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

The new one is a better machine, it sounds a bit better. Whether that level of sound quality improvement is “worth it” is hard to answer for someone else.

One other really nice thing about the new transport is that the fuse is outside the casing, not inside, and it’s easy to change to an aftermarket fuse or in my case use a Swiss Digital Fuse Box and (Graphene) Sluggo. The fuse or the Fuse Box and Sluggo DO make a significant improvement, at least in my system.

Welcome!

Not actually sure another transport is coming as most manufacturers don’t have the capability of making drive assemblies so I took Paul at his word and purchased a PWT and will depend on PS for support. I’m not a streamer so my listening will depend on PS.

I don’t know if there are any more drives in inventory for the DMP, but Paul need just mention in this thread that they’ll be placing one more order for the drives in the latest PS Audio transport, the PST. Whether or not they’ll be any around in another five or ten years is another story.
Here’s hoping my PST out lives me.

There must be manufacturers of CD players or transports that make their own drives. I don’t know who they are but they must be out there. (I think Luxman do, but I could be wrong about that)

I was drooling on that Luxman SACD transport selling at TMR. Thank goodness it was sold quickly; I cannot afford another expensive AES/SPDIF cable needed with that.
