I just got aware of it: The wonderful sounding PST seems to be sold out. Are there any plans at PS Audio to build a successor? …
Marantz has discontinued the transport that is the heart of the PerfectWave SACD Transport–PS Audio has a supply for repairs and replacement, but will not build new Transports as a result of the discontinuation.
I haven’t heard them announce a successor or a plan to build one. In the world today that fosters moves away from disc recordings. . . who knows whether they’ll continue to design products along these lines. I hope they may.
There are and we’ll let you know when we’re ready to launch, probably sometime in April as Axpona nears. As has been previously mentioned, we have only a limited number of SACD drives stashed away as the manufacturer announced they were discontinuing them.
Stay tuned.
Is (was) there only one manufacturer of SACD drives?
Thank you very much indeed. I’ll keep an eye on it …
No, but the advantage is having the license to transmit the raw DSD data from the transport. PS Audio could use the Oppo Audio license until that manufacturer desisted, and now is utilizing the Marantz. I know Luxman makes an SACD drive.
Understood. Thanks Lon.
Here we ago again. Seems like only yesterday I traded in my DMP for the PST because i didn’t want to end up with an expensive paper weight down the the road. Deja vu
Short of Paul and his team designing their own proprietary disc drive what options are there? I don’t want a $4K to $7K investment every few years…
Ripping SACDs since it’s bit-perfect and the contents of the file are the exact same as what’s on the disc.
A new, updated product does not suddenly make the PST, DMP, or even PWT work any less as well as they currently do.
Just to add that although Marantz discontinued the current drive used in the PerfectWave SACD Transport another one developed by Marantz apparently now exists.
The newly developed SACDM-3 drive is used in the Marantz SACD 10 player and also used in the SA-12SE player (special edition).
The information was in the present February edition of the German magazine “Audio/Stereoplay” which gave a very good review and which included the Marantz model 10 amplifier.
Welcome!
Newly developed? I don’t think that is true. According to a post by Elk from 2021, the PST employs the SACD-M3 transport mechanism, the same as in the Marantz SA-10.
It appears this is the very first post made by hifrlistener.
This is the first time hifilistener has posted — let’s welcome them to our community!
Yes, think you are right about the drive.
The player was available in Germany towards the end of last year where other internals are new development revisions. Selling at 11,000 Euros and no lightweight at 33Kg. Also reviewed in January edition of German magazine “Stereo" and achieved reference status.
