New PS Audio speakers?

I guess I don’t get the people who seem to want PS Audio to fail here. Maybe the speakers aren’t for you, but we should all hope PSA does well for no other reason than naked self-interest. The schadenfreude anymore when it comes to “items I think are too expensive for me so they should be too expensive for you” really gets to me.

Here’s hoping you sell a ton of them and they join the best-in-class club that has characterized PS Audio products in the space these last several years. And here’s hoping that the buyers LOVE them. Kick some tail.

I was gonna say the same thing, my system pales in comparison to most on here, but I don’t hate on any one of you, I find it inspirational and something to aim for in later life.

Similarly, why on earth would you put a negative on such a monumental first gen product from such a wonderful company, both in their products and ethos.

I wish PSAudio every success with this release, I have no doubt it’s going to be impressive, the choice of planars already points to something special.

Perfect reply. And you wont find their kind of personal service many places on the planet.

I just want the tech and ultimately the sound to do the speaking.

As soon as I get more than a few inches deep into advertising bs, I feel like my intelligence is being insulted and the product is probably not very good if it needs all the colorful verbiage. I actively shun companies/products because of ads. Only twice in my 40+ years have I bought something that I saw in an ad.

I’m literally an advertiser’s worst nightmare :joy:

I use to work in a retail shop that catered to a completely different product, but was driven by enthusiasts much in the same way as audiophiles. Differences of philosophy, collecting interests, and endless pontification of “best practices.” A customer would often ask if product X was worth 50% more than product Y right next to it. I always told them, everyone has a different wallet. My wallet isn’t the same as yours…what may be worth it to me, doesn’t mean it’s worth it to you.

There’s people on these boards that have more invested in their cables and cords than I have in my entire system. Do I have the cash to buy those cables and cords? Yup. Do I think it’s worth it? Nope. My wallet, my worth, and I have no concern if others have a worth different than mine.

Thanks for noticing this. This is supposed to read 400, not 00. I’ll make a note to our web developer.

LR4 refers to an acoustically 4th order linkwitz-riley filter design

Yes, I plan to do more of a technical deep dive on our planar magnetic drivers, at some point in the near future.

I would agree with you on that this could be the biggest feature of the product and is something special sound-wise. I’ll let you know when I have more information to offer here.

But multiple, as well as bigger drivers mean less distortion and more speed (not necessarily more bass). Should be very desirable.

£10,000 doesn’t get you much of a car here, but on our last holiday to the Isle of Skye with one track roads 7 feet wide I’m glad we didn’t have a motor home. The requirements of speakers, like cars and many consumer products, are far more regional that many people think.

In my experience more speed and transient response comes from better amplification, even with relatively cheap speakers like Harbeth with a single 8" mid/bass driver. But then it’s a very good driver.

… and there was I thinking that 00hz was the cut-off when you cut off the power.

Yes. America still has a lot of wide open spaces and lots of room to roam. Although real estate in cities and urban neighborhoods is crazy expensive right now. Many properties sell at way over asking price in just a few hours. Out in the country things are much better and the neighbors are a lot farther apart.

Same here!
I hope the speakers turn out to be a roaring success for PSA. I have no issue with the speakers - whether it be looks or the cost. I have spent considerably more on speakers – ‘my’ frustration lies with the 8th wonder of the world type selling propaganda. When I read gratuitous spiel from a manufacturer - I automatically think what is wrong with this product, a product “only they” venerate, a product that has never left the factory. If it is a really great product it will sell itself devoid of any hyper-intensive B/S!! ‘But that’s just me’…

I now watched all the videos and like them all. Convincing on their detail level and very well made and spoken.

Just from what I expect of the speakers, Paul nailed it again with getting the right people for out of the box thinking and designs and giving them room to be creative while he’s not sticking to own preliminary ideas.

The only topic not covered yet is the crossover. Many extremely open and 3D sounding speakers have lowest order designs, but are not always most controlled and powerful. Would be interesting to understand more about this.

No one markets their product with the tagline “It’s decent, good enough. So buy it.”

Hey Baldy, seven license plates (if they are all insured) should get you a real nice Catastrophic Claim Association Fund refund** in the next few months, just enough to make a down payment. Just sayin’ …

We and die in the mid-range

My insurance man says I have the record for most auto policies. He is a gem to work with as I remove road coverage when they are in storage and reinstate when I am ready to go for a ride and he handles all of that without any issues. Most companies wont do that anymore but it does save a few bucks during the winter months.

I have cleaned up the most recent junk.

Let’s chill and enjoy the new product offering and stick to discussing the speakers.

We [live] and die … ? Agree 100%, and how the midrange planar drivers blend into the mid/bass. I wonder how many people have heard that configuration. I haven’t.
