New PS Audio speakers?

Just before I retired, I accompanied a young sales engineer to deal with his very unhappy customer who complained that the meter that we sold him to measure liquid density was reading “substantially off”. Our device was rated to 0.0001 gm/cc accuracy and was certified in all 50 states for legal custody transfer. He paid about $30K for it.
When I got there, to head off long stories of woah, I asked to see their reference. It was a car battery hydrometer.
He didn’t trust our $30K device until he compared it to his $5. device.

It reminds me of the old Phil Harman, as Gary Busey, SNL skit of him selling the helmet protector protector. What are you calibrating the thing that calibrated your testing rig with? I realize it’s not exactly the same thing but… yeah. And all of this may / may not have any relevance to room response.

Whatever test gear is used you need three of them so that they vote against each other.

And probably recertified annually for a few thousand $ more.

Can’t wait to see the reviews, tests, etc. For me, though, it’s a pipe dream because of the cost. Ironically, I COULD buy one and plop the whole price down right now, but once my wife sees it delivered, the rest of my listening days would be spent in the garage…

“Tell me three times”.
I often got blank looks when I said that to other IT infrastructure pros…

“Just the place for a Snark!” the Bellman cried,
As he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on the top of the tide
By a finger entwined in his hair.

“Just the place for a Snark! I have said it twice:
That alone should encourage the crew.
Just the place for a Snark! I have said it thrice:
What I tell you three times is true.”

Much like Xerox does with printers, the money isn’t really in the device it’s the long term commitment to the ink or in this case calibration.

The results of measurement are part of the criteria for me to purchase equipment.

Part, not everything. But if a manufacturer is able to back up his selling points by measurements that 3rd parties can verify it is certainly a positive.

On the other hand, the FR30 are advertised to go straight down to 30 Hz. With the amount of drivers and volume in the cabinet I’d rather expect in room measurements to probably top these numbers.

For off axis performance I loved the Buchardt graphs. The speakers are in my living room and indeed we have a very large sweet spot and not any bad spot. A good off axis response is important for a living room placement as you never sit in one and the same place and also move around more. In case you have a dedicated listening room that might not be so critical but still very enjoyable.

My in room at listening position measurements, they mean a lot.

You have some serious DSP going on if those graphs are real. And with so much DSP to fix things, who cares what a speaker’s natural response is lol.

Hi bob and Chris

Just upgraded the woofers according to yours recommendation , OMG , much much better in overall performances . Thanks again!!

Agree with @Jedi, there has to be some uber dsp to get it that flat/smooth in-room to the point where the ‘natural’ sound of a speaker becomes moot and irrelevant. I haven’t PERSONALLY seen that flat/smooth of a curve even after “normal” dsp processes (unless your room is an anechoic chamber).

Especially from 10Hz (!) to 100Hz. In room speaker response going this low and this flat at low frequencies is astounding.

The slow 10dB decrease from low frequencies to high is intriguing as a choice.

I honestly can’t take that frequency response graph seriously. I want to see that system and the space it’s in. And the DSP settings.

Maybe it’s an anechoic chamber measurement? There seem to be zero low-end room resonances. Even with Dirac and room insulation I can’t get anywhere close to this curve. DSP can tame some peaks but not fill in valleys. Would love to see how this is achieved.

Preorders now started in Norway USD 31300 + 25% tax

Exactly. That’s why I said I wanted to see the listening space…because it has to be an anechoic chamber.

I’ve still got mine for my SC III.a speakers that are still producing wonderful music after 20+ years.
