New PS Audio speakers?

I am delighted you had such a positive experience in our room with the AN3s. Thanks for sharing!

Everyone is allowed their opinion. Disagreeing or stating an alternate view embarrasses no one.

And exaggerated statements in audio? Never!

It is accurate to the extent it expresses your opinion.

But I find none of us are good at accurately declaring another’s intent from their posts. I doubt Paul is seeking to publicly embarrass you, but rather is expressing his disagreement, albeit with his typical hyperbole. I similarly believe you are not trying to embarrass Paul or PS Audio, but are instead expressing honestly held views.

I think the product in development and the effort of the involved people didn’t deserve that amount of critical observation (which I might be one of at times).

The reason why the direction developed should probably be examined from a supervisory perspective, considering some psychological aspects involved in people’s reactions to how and what was discussed in advance. Therefore I think it was a great choice of Paul to involve new PSA Forum members who contribute with their own style, enrich the forum and for sure also push PSA business with their authentic speaking.

Elk is correct. I have (and had) no intention of embarrassing anyone. Sorry if it came across that way, that certainly was not my intent.

I just like to point out that on forums or other public media the relatively few posters are far outweighed by the multiples of readers that never write.

I certainly value people’s opinions and want them to express them freely, openly and without any thoughts of embarrassment. Sorry if I came across too strongly.

Indeed they should and we do. I was simply questioning some of the sweeping statements made. Not sure why those occur but they do.

Individual opinions most welcome. Good or bad.

@jazznut You are right, none of the people reserve that. Regardless of a prototype, whether the speakers score an A with 110% of the audience or less.

The AN3 are yet another marvel of Engineering PS Audio pulled of.
The PS Audio team has a lot of guts to take an advanced prototype out to a public show and face the inevitable criticism that comes with such practice.

What they got in return is more than 1000 comments with feedback. Many comments useful, some less, it’s the view of the design team that counts here.
But PS Audio has plenty of information in order to decide how to perform the finishing touch.

And they are right to do it that way. No guts no glory.

Im one of the most excited by the new speaker concept and I’m sure they will sound outstanding in people’s homes, no matter how they sounded in this show room!

Relative to “Exaggerated in audio”, good thing we are not discussing the performance of a prototype cable or interconnect.

Chas

Hi everyone,

So just like quite a few who commented, I also made it out to AXPONA and one major reason was to meet Paul and the gang, plus listen to AN3. First off, what an amazing bunch of ppl, the most genuine, friendly, easy going group I’ve ever dealt with! Paul is as friendly as his videos, Ted as cool and genius as you think he is, Darren, James, and Scott were all super chill, and awesome guys. I visited PSAudio everyday I was at AXPONA and it was a pleasure everytime! Thanks for your hospitality!

Now, for AN3, here are some feedback:

  • Room was massive and I don’t think helped at all, probably another room would have been more appropriate
  • It looks WAY BETTER in person than in pics, I suggest doing some better photography on it
  • It’s actually quite slender, but very deep, so that would limit some placement but won’t make it look massive
  • Sound was smooth, very balanced, not in your face, and massive bass
  • It lacked some punch though, hard to pinpoint, but it wasn’t as resolving as I thought it would be, maybe needs sharper midrange? I am new to this, so can’t use proper lingo
  • Bass was a bit too much for my taste, and not as tight, at times sounded like HT subwoofers, and I think it has to be adjusted according to room and taste
  • Imaging was great
  • Sweet spot was quite wide, some speakers I listened only had a very narrow sweet spot, AN3 didn’t
  • Overall, very impressive for a prototype, but does need more tweaking, voicing, specially in the bass
  • Tip: I HIGHLY suggest an LFE input, as these speakers would be AMAZING for HT setups, no need for separate subwoofers!

Kudos all around, I understand some were disappointed from the comments, but this after-all was literally finished a cpl of days before AXPONA, and it’s a colossal effort just to get it to this point. I am 100% sure Paul and team will sort out the kinks, tighten the bass, and work on mid and top end a bit for the final product. Compared to some speakers in the price range, none would have active subs, 4 amps, servo woofer, 4 way, and a high end cabinet in this price range! I cannot fit this in my room otherwise would have been on my short list.

PS. For folks who didn’t make it, here are some highlights of the show for me (apart from PS Audio)

  • New Elac Carina bookshelves, great value for the sound
  • Vandersteen was awesome (never heard em before)
  • B&W was meh
  • Harbeth driven by Luxman was fantastic!
  • Dan Agustino+Wilson sounded amazing
  • Credo in-line speakers, very very narrow sweet spot
  • Focal sounded and looked great, to me now above B&W
  • Magico is way over-rated! I listened to 2-3 of their rooms and none impressed!
  • Didn’t like Avant Garde horn speakers
  • Innous makes some great streaming, music server products
  • ALL ROOMS SUCKED

Uh oh… @Brodric is gonna have a coronary.

Nah, it’s OK. Every Magico owner in the world will disagree with him. Every reviewer that has them in their top 10 speakers of all time might disagree with him also. All opinions are welcome here!

He might like to wait to buy the AN3, which is going to be the new world’s best speaker ever created. And much much cheaper than Magico. After-all, 20th century technology is going to be back in vogue and tip all those high-tech 21st century speakers off their pedestal.

Thanks for this well balanced thoughtful set of comments. I don’t think there’s much I would disagree with.

All I wrote was I doubt neither you nor Paul are seeking to embarrass the other, but are instead expressing honestly held views. I continue to believe this is true. This does not belittle you - or Paul -in any way.

People are going to disagree with you. Disagreement is not a personal attack.

Edit:

It may be helpful for you to highlight that my original post only expressed disagreement with your assertion: "People should be allowed their opinion without you [Paul] coming along and trying to embarrass them or make exaggerated statements to serve your own INTERESTS . . . "

I wrote only “Everyone is allowed their opinion. Disagreeing or stating an alternate view embarrasses no one.”

By the way, I have no opinion on the speakers, I have not heard them.

Perhaps the reaction to your post has to do with, as Paul put it in is apology, “I was simply questioning some of the sweeping statements made.”

And perhaps that was your problem with Paul’s pre-show hype, which is understandable. It is also understandable why Paul and Co. would hear mostly praise, and why those openly grumbling about a demo would speak to others with that opinion, and feel that their view was representative. Happens in many rooms every year.

I believe your obsession with an LFE input is misplaced. Most, if not all, surround processors have the ability to send the .1 information to the main speakers. Other manufacturers like Definitive Technology and Triton offer mains type speakers with subwoofers built in.
