Apparently Facebook’s AI has figured out I am interested in music and audio equipment. As a result my feed is constantly being filled with apropos ads to the point of aggravation. (And yes, PS Audio is one of the advertisers!) Here’s my question: Why are so many bands and individual musicians, most of them struggling musicians trying to get recognition, offering me free CDs? Some are free if I pay shipping, or free if I buy a second CD, or many times just free. Anyone else getting these ads? What is their (true) motive? Should I be suspicious?
In the 1950’s tobacco companies used to give free cigarettes at or near school playgrounds.
Same concept with the CDs, just without the cancer.
Interesting! The Empty Pockets is one of them that pops up in my feed! I’ve listened to the sample tracks they have on their website and they actually are quite good! 
The first hit is free
Good to be skeptical of certain things that are given away for free, but I don’t think CDs are one of them.
But, if they cost just a penny, BEWARE!
Follow up question since you’ve done a transaction with them already: Does the band end up with your credit card number, or is the payment handled through an independent third party so such personal information is secure from theft? You probably know where my thinking is going with this question!
I think the card they sent to him saying Welcome to the empty pockets was foreshadowing of things to come.
I used PayPal to pay for it.
Update: I went to PayPal and found the band was setup so if they sent another invoice, they would be paid. In checking that out I found a bunch of sellers were similarly setup. Not anymore they aren’t. I credit you for helping me to discover this. PayPal is at fault for this and I am now fully aware. Whew.
