I sometimes experience failed startup from standby on my P15 powerplant. I would say it happens between every five to ten startup, so no real headache, but it still makes me wonder why?
I have to recykle the powerswitch to get it going again. Sometimes a couple of times.
It mostly indicates short circuit when it fails.
I have a modest load of maybe 250w connected to it, so no big poweramps etc.
Anyone having the same experience?
That is normal depending on the load. It isn’t how many watts your amp is, necessarily, but the turn on current surge and depending on where in the AC sinewave cycle you trigger it on.
Thank’s Paul, I suspected it could be something like that. It feels much better now knowing the reason behind the behavior.
P.S I have now listened about 30 hours on the new PMG Signature Pre and it’s very good I must say. I think you have a winner there. The DAC is on order too so something to look forward to.
Thanks, Matts! I am guessing you’re in for an even bigger thrill with the new DAC. I am so delighted with these signature products. As you are no doubt aware, the size of the step up is nothing short of amazing.
I am finally good to call it done. Future tweaks? Sure, but as a platform it’s about as good as it can get.
Hi Mat,
I did have a similar problem with my P15. I think it has something to do with the sudden draw or inrush of demand before it’s booted up.
I have sequenced my startup of the P15 with different zones and times so it spreads the load demand over 30 seconds or so. No problems since I’ve done that.
