P20 Beta testing 0122

March 25, 2019 20:15: Just updated my P20 from version 0119 to version 0122.
The “phantom touch inputs” should now be gone.
I have restored the ethernet connection.

Thanks for testing for me! We’re a couple weeks into testing on a few units here at PS Audio, and all seems to be going well so far. I’ll be checking up here now and then to see how it’s going out in the filed.

Tom.

You bet Tom, I will keep you posted. So far so good…

@tomgPS - Thanks, just loaded the 1.22 version with ease. I have also reconnected the Ethernet cable. My issue on top of the display was the preamp zone would recycle ON/OFF/ON/OFF… don’t think they are related, never know. Here starts the beta testing. Need to have the Ethernet cable connected for the powerplay data collection restart this summer…

@ronaldwanders - disregard the post on the P20 freezing, you have already set up the thread… thanks and good hunting…

0900 - 03/26/19 - Ethernet reconnected - firmware loaded - P20 retained configuration (zones, text, MW levels…). Selected scope display and will monitor for a day.

Tom’s Notes below:

  • Moved the threshold of touch detection up so that it requires more force to activate the screen. This is not noticeable to the standard human touch. (This may need some more adjusting to dial in as well)
  • Increased the radius of the touch needed to activate the screen. As with the last point, this may still need to be dialed in.
  • Modified the code a bit to deactivate the variable that manages touch events after going through the code that processes touch input.
  • There are a few more minor things that have changed as well.

It seems Tom has reduced the display sensitivity and may need more tweaking based on the field and PSA testing.

The start of the testing is to place the display in scope and see it it changes for a few days.
So far the Ethernet has been reacquired and seems to be happy.

03/27/19 - 0900 - display has not changed from the meter display, has not blinked, and P20 has not cycled the preamp zone ON/OFF. I have also been exercising the P20 remote and display interaction. Very smooth, no issues. Ethernet still plugged into the P20 and active (green).

what is “Preamp zone”?

@RonP - I woke up and walked into my music room and the P20 zone that my preamp was connected to was cycling ON/OFF/ON… was really freaky… so I shut off my gear, then shut off the P20, removed the Ethernet and cycled it all on… and no issue for 6weeks without the Ethernet cable. Now I got a new 1.22 P20 logicware load and I plugged the Ethernet in after loading the new LW. It looks like Tom has desensitized the display. So, I am looking to make sure the display is operational, not flakey, and my preamp does not cycle ON/OFF/ON… as it did 6 weeks ago. I think they are two separate issues…

Make sense?

Yes. But a little spooky though.

fingers crossed! :crossed_fingers:

We’re going on about a month with this new code and haven’t seen any problems yet.

How often were you experiencing those problems on the old firmware @cardri? The more I know about those symptoms the better I can target areas in the code to look at. Was it fairly quickly after power cycling - or did it take a few days?

I’m glad it hasn’t happened so far with this new code!

@tomgPS - very infrequent (twice in a few months) on display jumping and just once of the cycling my preamp zone in almost a year. It is very rare…

@RonP - the good news is that it happened just once since I turned it on in May, 2018. Yeah, scared the hell out of me. In addition, the display issues are very, very infrequent. As indicated, Tom has been testing it for a month. So far so good; however, I will just add a post every day for a week and then slow down to once a week. While running it, I’m exercising the display…

03/28/19 - 0900 - display has not changed from the meter display, has not blinked, and P20 has not cycled the preamp zone ON/OFF. I have also been exercising the P20 remote and display interaction. Very smooth, no issues. Ethernet still plugged into the P20 and active (green).

03/29/19 - 0900 - 0900 - display has not changed from the meter display, has not blinked, and P20 has not cycled the preamp zone ON/OFF. I have also been exercising the P20 remote and display interaction. Very smooth, no issues. Ethernet still plugged into the P20 and active (green).

Can you please elaborate on the original problem? A quick forum search on ‘p20 phantom’ only brought up this post. I have two P20s and a P15 on their way due to arrive Friday.

Thanks,

Tony
