Every time I tried equalization it spoled the sound. Going further forward or to the back will change clarity. As does the width. What type HT codec source was the movie? So far mine does well with 7.1 or 5.1 extended or in Neo6 movie if movie is in stereo.
No, my P20 is my only PS Audio kit.
I use Chord Electronics, pre and mono block amps and their Blu2 and Dave dac for CD replay.
One dts HD 5.1 and two Atmos movies.
As Iām planning to do my permanent install on Friday could you elaborate again on the final dimensions you are using please?
How hard is the absorber to cut?
Is a new Stanley knife blade sufficient to make nice clean cuts?
Vmax ā¦ looking for your advice on whether I should install a Bybee iSQE into my P20 at the same time as Iām adding the AB7050HF to the underside of my P20 top lid, seeing as Iāll have the top off.
Iāve sourced this from a iSQE review in what the product does
The Bybee Technologies iQSE is part of the newly introduced āCrystal Seriesā products that interact with Carbon C13 atoms present in matter thereby creating a magnetic field effect. In this magnetic field, the polarity of all electrons and protons are altered, affecting their oscillation by making them more aligned with each other, which results in the transfer or sharing of electrons between atoms more streamlined and efficient. In audio, the net effect is less ānoiseā in the current/signal path and the air molecules within the listen room are less excited, making them less resistant to the sound waves (in both cases less signal/sound compression).
Another quote from a different review
Jack Bybeeās iQSE does not work on EMI or RFI but is designed to improve the flow of electrons and protons in circuit boards.
From what youāve written about earlier the absorber work on RF would you say thereās any interaction between the two products or can they both be used in conjunction with each other.
I would imagine the P20 base would be a perfect place to add a iSQE, (if no interaction between the two products?)
Hoping for updates to my last two posts as planning to do the install of the AVB7050HF tomorrow.
If using the Bybee I would do it progressively. Place the 3M AB7050HF product. Temp install lid. Listen for a few songs noting key places there is vocals, strings, percussion and bass note their times into song. Then power off, pull lid place Bybee on floor of P20 . Temp install the lid. Relisten to song same places and determine if better or worse than without bybee. If better or worse move to a different location on floor of the P20 see if improves or worsens. It is likely the Bybee has its own sweespot. Just choose where that is or isnāt.
The Bybee doesnāt claim to be an absorber. But if it is. It may worsen or improve things depending on location and if it is complimenting or over absorbing or over dampening characteristics to the power the P20 produces. Th AB7050HF is definitely size and location dependent to what it does to P20. I like itās effects. In the end you must be the judge
The 3.75 in by 8.0 inch rectangle placed on lid centered over display mid point and at forward edge of P20 seems to be the location preference for me. More or less width than 8.0 starts dampening the lively, vibrant, details that separate a live acoustic sound from the reproduction playback sound.
I have replaced the fuse of my P20 with a purple SR one day ago. Listened to one track right after the change: sounded terrible, soundstage flat as a pancakeā¦ Now let time do the work!
Vmax ā¦ thanks for the responses.
Youāre not sure then if the iSQE is an absorber?
I might email Bybee with regard to this query.
What about cutting the AB7050HF material, will a new Stanley knife blade do it nice and cleanly?
Yes, burn in with the new Purple fuses is an issue for me in auditioning changes to the system.
I suppose I could wait weeks until these are properly burned in before doing anything?
Trial and error with the iSQE and CD replay auditioning might be difficult.
Itās a big job to strip down my rack.
I could leave out the home cinema processor section while auditioning iSQE within the P20?
Leaving only the pre-amp and CD section to re-build on the shelves above the P20.
Once happy, then do a full rebuild of rack.
The Bybee is called a crystal. But likely is absorber.
I have visited suppliers who make materials similar to the AB7050HF. They essentially use a large mixing bowl pour a couple dozen powdered elemental materials add elastic or rubberized material until they have a big bowl of dark colored pizza dough, they then send through a roller and cure under heat in sheets. In ovens This is sliced into the desired shapes or straight edges using straight edge knives. The excess trim is used for performance testing to make sure the mix was correctly done. The powdered materials are a proprietary make up to absorb the needed RF or EMF. .
I would surmise the Bybee to use similar technology because it boils down to physics. Bybee is shaped differently and uses mysterious and magical scientific descriptions. But my guess it is likely the same basic technology. It is the thickness and type materials in the mix which determines absorber effectiveness as well as placement to RF and EMF radiating components. If you knew where the radiators are you can surmise placement. Or move around and listen like I did
But any sharp knife or scissors you can trim the AB7050HF absorber.
I would wait until your fuses are settled otherwise sound might be unstable, especially where insulators like the graphene is forming dielectric near fuse conductor. Your ability to optimize might be compromised though overall better sounding placement seems to be a constant even if you change cables. Your particular outlier might be other rack components and how they will affect final sound.
Iāve decided to join the tweek-a-thon and get the RF absorber sheet. Winter is coming and we donāt have any new PSA gear to play with. Thanks for your dogged analysis of this mod. My P20 can use all the help it can get due to incoming power that registers around 8% THD.
Vmax ā¦ your quote above ā¦ the 3.75 inch part, just to confirm thatās from the FRONT of the P20, not from the front of the lid.
The face plate of the P20 is about a 1/4 inch so subtract the faceplate width from the 3.75 inches as the absorber edge will go against the front edge of the lid for permanent installation underneath the lid?
I am getting one sheet next week to try on P15. As far as I know P15 has the transformer at similar location as the P20. I will start with 8 x 31/2 but I will put at the bottom of it instead of on top. I hope I donāt have to take it out of the rack and remove the top lid if it doesnāt work.
Ha anyone removed the top lid of the P15 and remembered where the transformer is?
I think you will be both happily surprised and delighted at the performance dollar per smile quotient it delivers no matter you musical genre cabling or other tweaks. I will be surprised if it returns no benefit in sound. It doesnāt improve outgoing distortion to under 0,1 percent on my setup but definitely reduces the noise floor on what you can hear in detail and draws one into the performance. I think I am nearing full tweak but one never knows. The better and more resolving the easier it is to hear the changes.
But by all means share your experiences.
I think my dragon 48 HC power cord finally hit full break in after three weeks and my soundstage width returned.
My plan is to allow the extra 1/4 inch to tuck under the inner beveled edge of the aluminum front face plate of the P-20 above the front display board to absorb the RF coming off the display. So 3.5 inch is sruck to lid and the seam can absorb HF RF entering or escaping through the seam lid to case.
Gotcha, great idea, I wouldnāt have thought of that.
Listening to music now with the full sheet but the 3.75 inches from the front edge.
System sounding great, like when I listened to the Beatleās 1ās cd.
3 75 inches from the front edge of the P20, so the majority of the sheet overhangs the front of the P20.
You may need something heavy over the material on the P20 to keep it in place.
Centre the sheet on the P20 as the screen is in the middle of the P20.
Have the adhesive side up so that the absorber material is sitting next the P20.
