I would search out the single center screw that bolts the power transformer to base plate. Then measure to front panel edge. That will give you depth. Next length must at least over lap display edge width by 1/4 inch and or left edge of transformer diameter. That should over a tuneable starting point.
I’m not hanging anything over the front. No sir.
That makes sense. I’ll do that when I get home since the whole system is shut down while I’m on vacation now.
A 3.75 by 8 inch rectangle. The front edge tto rear edge 3.75 back from forward edge. Center ther 8 inch length both sides to sener line of display. You can temporarily tape it to lid before you cut it. Letting it overhang the display like in my photo in the beginning of this thread. Then listen with and without. It is night and day. Edge will line up with the forth cooling fin to cover half of the transformer underneath per delidded P20.
You can trim after you tune it in place it has no effect in front of display.
It makes no difference what side is up. The adhesive and paper peel back doesn’t affect the absorber properties
Here is a temp install picture. You can trim it where my finger is for front edge. Bending up or fownat edge of p20 has no sonic effect. Therefore you don’t have to hang it over display.
Now that I see this, I have to ask:
What are you protecting from the hash that this thing absorbs – something near the regenerator, something in the regenerator, or what?
Thanks in advance (sorry, I am a bit lost here).
Cheers.
I have my temporary arrangement as shown, with the wider edge along the front of the P20.
Hoping for permanent install tomorrow, but that may change.
It is absorbing EMF from toroidal transformer, RF from display and its DAC FPGA in P20 and its class D amp
And, what does it protect (how does it reduce noise or whatever) by absorbing the EMF?
For example, is it a matter of diverting the EMF from the innards that can affect power pulled from the outlets? And/or does it serve as a sink protecting nearby equipment from the EMF?
Thanks again,
Scott
I have a Arcam AV40 and a Panasonic UB9000, I see no reason why this tweak can’t work for them also as they both have screens.
I’ll see what I have left over after installing my P20 version and test out using temporary arrangements a la P20 one shown above.
I may have to buy another AB7050HF?
Hmmm, this tweak is very interesting.
One quick slice with this guy and I am done. I left it full width for now which is a bit over 8 inches. I believe I have enough left over to do two more.
@aangen It needs to be exactly 8 inches for clearest highs. 73/4 or 8.5 is more muffled. But your mileage may vary. I have played with this about two weeks. But my ears may differ.
Your amp and preamp probably have better SNR than mine. So you might not need it.
I am listening to Phantom of Opera OMG original cast the organ and vocals and highs.
I am listening at the moment to The Embassadors - Coptic Dub. It’s on a thumb drive plugged into my PST which is plugged into my Grimm MU1. I am so not suffering. No.
@aangen Oh tell us more about your experiences. My wife made me replay Sara Brightman and the London Cast, she was so moved she is mimicking Sarah lol
You have been preparing for this Mod Al! Right tool for the right job!
I think I can make 3 more. It’s about 8.25 inches wide as cut. I have a doubt that trimming it to exactly 8 inches is audible to my old ears.
I got enough to trim one to 8.25. I haven’t tried tha one yet. Maybe I should. Please describe differences you hear with and without the 8.25 in place.
