P20 & P15 Regenerator Performance Tweaks and Digital Stream Enhancements, plus BHK Preamp

No! Last week I worked hard to unplug and plug again all in my rack replacement project! That was the right moment to try this tweak! I pass this time, sorry.
Thank you for sharing your tweak of the tweak.
My P20 requires too much effort, I’m not ready. But I can resize the piece of absorber 10 x 4 cm (I was using a bit larger size) and put it over the lid more on the left side of the display to try.
Tune rings and dampening plugs are other tweaks from Vmax you can experiment now. Enjoy!

Hi @luca.pelliccioli
I totally understand you.
But believe me, you want this.
As I said, initially I also didn’t want to unplug anything and take my P15 of the rack. But I’m glad I did.

About the plugs support, I build my own cables, and they have the most tight fit I ever experiment.

On the schuko side (P15) it’s so tight that they don’t oscillate not even a hair.
On the IEC side (source equipment) it depends, on some I applied some support.
I will investigate the ring tweak (but don’t have that much of 3M sheet to every power cable).

I know I know, sooner or later I’ll do, let me more time! Thank you.
On IEC side of the P20 using a Dragon HC is where I had my best results. Just with an IsoAcoustics Orea under the plug. Without any effort! Vmax can explain better than me why.

Let’s see if you can wait until next weekend.

Yes, the IEC connector on the P15/P20 is a problematic spot.
I have that covered (see my last photo). Is not on the plug, but since my cables are stiff, it also supports the plug.

Slightly off topic but should still of interest to this group.

Anyone know if covering a mass of speaker cable with the 3M pad will help or hurt the sound?
Note that there are 2 linear AC to DC power supplies beside the speaker cable.
I plan to test it tonight.

Update: I don’t think the 3M pad is a good application here. First off, I learned that speaker cable should not be next to ferrous metals, which may be present in the 3M pad. And given the low impedance (max 16 ohm), shielding doesn’t make a difference.
I did manage to spread out and not bundle the wire as tightly and that make a Big difference! Way more clarity and detail can be easily heard.

Since I will be doing review on DS MK2 soon, I dragged out the P15 and tried @nimitz 3M tape-over-processor tweak on the display board inside P15 last night.

I did not listen to it until this afternoon because I need to be on a nice golf course :golfing_woman:. The placement of these small 3M tapes on processors in P15 works! The sound becomes cleaner and smoother. Taping 3M over processors is, I think, more effective than the 3M strip on lid on top of the display. My final setup is covering the 3 processors with 3M as shown in nimitz pictures above, but I kept the 3M sheet above the transformer on lid. The system sounds great so I would not touch it.

I like the sound better than before. I placed the 3M tapes on the same chips inside the display board of DS also, and there is yet another improvement. But I will need to remove them soon before the DS MK2 arrives. Because I am sure DS is going back to PSA.

Outstanding!

I’m glad to hear that.

I was hoping not to hear that from you Donald! It seems Nimitz was right when he said I need to work hard with my P20 (again), oh my poor backache!
Must resist, I need to stay away from this forum (again).

@dchang05 were my measurements right?

Yes, they are close, but I did trim a tiny bit to make sure they do not touch the metal.

I completed my P20 with the Display board. I also put a small piece ont the Opamp on the board. I have had success on DS covering that and on the HDPLEX300 Opamps.

I spent forever getting one corner screw back in finally had to separate wood top from inner shield to get fastener to align to faraday shield. and had P20 off over an hour. So first listen is later tonight after all temps stabilize.

I got my Whispers back yesterday from Duncan. System was best ever with new amps. So I have a good listening memory after playing my go to evaluations. The depth and soundstage height andwidth awesome. I have never heard the ability to pin point direction singers were pointing heads or trumpet and sax players were moving the instruments bells so well. So this mod has got to compare to last nights session. . P-20 box is bigger so the effects might not be as good as P15.

Sounds like the “new” Whisper is doing a wonderful job in your system. I like the base Whisper PC in my system too. But since I am already on the Dragon route, I did not want to switch to a different cabling system. One of these days when I upgrade my home theater, I may visit Whisper again :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for sharing this tweak. It is a wonderful benefit to my P-20 with the 3M Absorber on the lid. I slso covered the small op amp on the video boatd knowing that also quiets thing.

No fibbing on the further refinements and more live deeper sound stage. Listening to Louis and Ella. The nearness of ayou and April in Paris. Simply stunning !

I fDd dome Take 5 previous to this. Loving the cymbal decay.

Thanks for joining the tweak party!

Here is the op amp on display board I covered.

Yes you need to do the P20 display board. No downsides. Just more of everything. Including herniated disk. But no pain no gain.

Happy it did work for you also.

Yes, that’s what I most highlight with the display/pic board tweak: deeper and more natural sound stage. A very welcome improvement.

Luca, it’s friday… get yourself ready for heavy lifting.
