P5 - On/Off Switching of Zones By IR Remote

Hi guys,

I have a P5 along with a Directstream DAC, and I am very pleased with both products, they are both incredibly well made and thought out.

On the P5 however, I want to be able to turn the four zones on and off independently with an IR remote control so that I can program my Harmony remote to turn on the correct zones for specific activities.

Can anyone detail how I go about achieving that, as I can find no instructions in the manual Though the manual does briefly touch on an ability to teach the unit remote commands), and nothing that might relate to it either in the ‘Control’ or ‘Powerplay’ screens?

Thanks in advance!

to my knowledge it is not possible to control specific zones via infrared remote (only alltogether), but if Harmony can be programmed to trigger specific URL you can program it to control P5 via LAN network (there is simple and working web interface available on the IP adress of your P5), or possibly use Powerplay URL - but that requires authentication (which may complicate things a bit with Harmony).

Thanks for the reply, but i have just managed to find where I saw the details on the IR control. This is the detail on this very website, under the Control tab on the product page:

IR and trigger controls

In the back of the P5 there are two mini jacks that can be assigned as either an IR input or output or a DC trigger transmitter or receiver. For the IR capabilities, the P5 can be assigned up to 15 separate IR commands for any zone and these IR broadcasts can be triggered by any number of assignable events. This helps P5 owners maintain complete control over not only the AC power, but by directly controlling that same equipment through a remote control.

If you have equipment that needs a DC trigger to turn it on or off remotely, you can assign one of the mini jacks to be either the sending or receiving unit for these commands and remotely turnon/off equipment or have that equipment remotely turn on/off the P5.

OK, so I’ve found a little more info in this document - Page 4 details some ability to program the IR codes, but I’ve no idea how to access them:

Right, hopefully this is almost all sorted with the very kind assistance of Jeremy at PS Audio, who has provided the Hex codes as per the attached Excel spreadsheet.

I have submitted these to Harmony to hopefully get them added to their database so that the various zones can be switched on and off independently.

I will report back when I’ve head back from Harmony and got these working properly.

Did you ever figure this out? I plan to buy a P15 and want to know if I can independently control what turns on and off.

I suggest reviewing the manual, here.
