Paul McGowan - Help with speaker cables for my Infinity speakers

Thanks Elk! Do you have experience with MG Design speaker cables as well? If so what is your opinion of them and what model do you have?

I do not, but have heard only good things.

Hi Paul,
This is an old thread but I was curious about the MG Audio speaker cables.
I recently borrowed some Nordost TYR2 speaker cables and was blown away by how much more revealing they were. Night and day difference is sound on my system.
Curious if you have ever compared the MG to the Nordost or if anyone else has.
My system is:
PS Audio BK Signature 250 amp
PS Audio BHK Signature preamp.
phono pre is a Rogue Audio Ares
Rega Planar RP6
Benz Micro wood cart
Chapman T-7 speakers.

I have not made a direct comparison, no. Nordost makes great cables and I’ll bet they’re quite good. I have just never found anything that comes close to the MGs.

Have you seen the Iconoclast thread? Have you tried them?

Ron, i have not tried the Iconoclast.
I have tried the Morrow SP7 cables, speaker and interconnects. Sounded great but no different than what I have.
Only other cable i have heard are the Nordost tyr2. Really makes my system shine but slightly hard edge which I could live with but would be nice to knock it down.
Would love to hear if anyone has experience with the nordost compared to others.

I’ve sold my Infinity. so I just use plain power cables for $ 36.97 for a whole roll.

If we believe in marketing from the HIFI producers - then we have had, for the past 100 years, the perfect sound reproduction.

I would ask Iconoclast for a trial pair. Costs you nothing and they’re impressive.

Did you try the old or new SP7 Morrow cables? The new (I think post Sept or so 2018) lost the silver coating and went with copper only, many more insulated strands, etc. My new version MA7s and SP7’s sound smoother than my old MA6, SP6 cables that had silver coated copper wires. The new MA7s, SP7’s helped tame my Focal speakers a bit when I switched from tube amp to SGCD/M700’s.

If you like the SP7’s, make sure you wait for a sale. That level of cable often has been going for 60% off MSRP.

I did try the new SP7’s. They sounded great but they sounded the same as what I had so there wasn’t a reason to go that route. Having said that I would recommend them as very good cables at a great price point. This is in no way a knock on Morrow.
The Nordost added a bit of excitement to my system that I did not have. Of course its the old question of is it better or just different but I will say the detail and openness of the sound is very noticeable. My son stopped by and I told him I wanted him to listen to some cables, not telling him if I thought they were good or not. We listened to my original cables and when I put the Nordost cables in we looked at each other and instantly could hear the difference.
They are very pricey and was just looking to see if there was anything out there comparable.

Hi Paul,
Tried the Mg Audio cables and they were fantastic. Tried out a few combos to see what I liked best.
I have the Planus III speaker cables and found I like the Ag2 interconnects over the Cu2.
So of course I am now wondering what kind of bump up I could expect using the Planus IV as opposed to what I am hearing with the Planus III. Not thinking of trying the Planus IV Ag.
Have you used both the III and the IV?

I suppose I have though I don’t remember all the nomenclatures. Each sounds better than the other to a point and with the right system. The coppers sound the mellowest and there silver the most detailed but they are all excellent.
