Hi
Received my PMG 512 DAC today and as one does immediately saw there was a firmware update and pressed the ‘button’ to start the download and install process
Download seems to have gone fine - but the firmware update is now processing and has been doing that for the past hour - is that normal?
Not wanting to break out of that or power cycle as for many other devices interrupting firmware updates leads to bad things happening
Any thoughts and advice welcome
Many thanks
Download and apply the latest (2.7.2) DAC firmware. You’ll have to scroll to the bottom of the psaudio.com home page to find Firmware Downloads.
After you apply the update, you might check to see if another streamer firmware update is available. If so, have the DAC apply that update.
By the way, after applying any streamer update, power-cycle the DAC before using it. It’s not clear why this is necessary, but it often/always is, and it doesn’t hurt.
Good luck!

I dont want to speak for PSAudio here, but I believe many have had this happen. Sometimes the firmware gets stuck and power cycle is needed. You may even have to redo the firmware update. The second time moves much faster for some reason.

Hi Brian
Thanks for all the help and suggestions
A reboot and tried the streamer firmware update again and that went through this time
Many thanks

You might also take my suggestion to install PMG 512 2.7.2 firmware, which specifically addresses this issue.
From the release notes:
• Improved progress status and error handling during streamer updates that would cause the unit to appear to be updating forever

Hi Chris
Thanks for the suggestion
Planning to do that - would be helpful if there were instructions for doing a firmware update posted along with the firmware update on the PS Audio site - some of us are new to the family
Found a USB drive - the firmware file is surprisingly small - I am used to firmware updates these days at least in the MB size
Many thanks

The instructions are included in the .zip file, along with the release notes and the firmware itself.

Yeah my bad - was reading on another forum post about not trying to extract the file - but I see now that this was the .bin file and not .zip file one shouldn’t try and unpack any further - thanks for the heads up
Wonder why his unit wasn’t updated before it was shipped?
Built and boxed before November 26?
It arrived with firmware 2.5.4. We have apparently had a lot of challenges getting stock in the UK. I placed my order end of October and only got it on Wednesday after changing retailer as the original supplier was being told by the distributor they would only have it in just pre-Christmas another week or so. I got lucky and found one elsewhere
