I have used the remote with the pre, 512 and transport since August with no issues (other than having to point it up your nose or similar to get it to work). I usually listen with screens off and occasionally turn them on to check something like track progress. Yesterday for the first time when I turned the screens on the pre also muted. This now happens every time the screens are turned on and its a pain when listening. No settings were changed anywhere.
Just thought I’d check here to see if anyone else has had this happen before I go digging around for the transport box to test with that remote.
Yes, same thing is happening to my PMG pre. I have not updated or changed anything, but I noticed it a few days ago. I prefer to have the screens off, but the muting when they turn on is annoying, so I have just been leaving them on. I don’t recall an option to enable/disable this feature, but I haven’t had time to dig into it.
Good to know it’s not my error. Just a wild guess, but one thing has changed, battery use. I will get the remote from the transport box with fresh batteries and try that.
Sorry, I wasn’t very clear. From stand-by. When I power up the PMG stack from the front panel switch, over the last three days, the PMG pre is in mute, and was not powered down in mute mode. Hope that makes sense.
I always use the remote so that all 3 PMGs come on together, it’s easier. With yours muting using the front panel switch seems to mean it’s not the remote. I will try some things later to try to narrow it down.
Okay, I really hate to “go conspiratorial” but we have been in one of the strongest sun radiation events for a while now. (I do not believe in flat earth.)
I tried some things but I was unclear in what I said earlier.
First the three remote buttons at the top are on, off and dim. Off puts it into standby (same as using the front panel switch). Dim dims the screen. On takes it out of standby and (if already on) undims the screen.
Pressing “On” from either standby or screen dimmed, the pre came on but not muted. Using the front panel switch to come out of standby I also did not get a mute. But I did notice that as the screen illuminates it flashes a muted screen for a small fraction of a second and then becomes unmuted.
So as of now the only time I get the mute is while playing music with the screen dimmed and pressing the “On” button.
Now I don’t know what’s happening with the muting. Yesterday I undimmed the screen with music playing and it did not mute the pre. Hard to diagnose the problem when it’s intermittent so we’ll just have to see what crops up.
