Does the power chord between the wall outlet and a PS regenerator really matter that much (should someone pay up for a really good one)?
Unbelievably, yes. The better the cable, the better the result. I use a cable that costs more than the P20. And I heard a difference with each cable upgrade I made. (I made several)
Knowing what the P20 does with the power it receives from the wall, it seemed absurd to think the main power cord could make a difference. But in practice, it was immediately obvious.
Believe it or not. Your choice.
If anyone following this thread believes as I do, perhaps you will respond âI believeâ.
wow, ok, thanks. interesting. am saving up for a regenerator now and will have to budget for that as well
The power cable from the wall to the power station or to a power strip is the pillar of a system and makes a big difference. The difference is probably greatest at this point, as all the current flows through there, which later creates the sound of the music from the speakers. In a power plant, the fuse also makes an audible difference. The fewer disruptions at the beginning, the better. A good power cord helps. If you donât have a generator yet, look for high-quality power strips or a Puritan.
Greetings Andreas
I knew and I believe. I bought the P15 with an AQ Hurricane cord, and later I upgraded it to an AQ Dragon HC. How much improvement have I heard? The improvement was as significant as the powerplant itself. I am currently using another cord with ribbon pure silver conductors and a different power strip, and there was further improvement over Dragon.
Al and Andreas are right, this cord between the wall and powerplant is the most important one, and it would make the most difference in SQ. So, you want to put the best power cable here.
I donât want to say ask Luca whether a Schnerzinger Allucator isnât an option. High quality power strip with high quality cable. What components do you have? Experience with power cords and which power strip is currently used to power the system? What is your planned budget? Also think about the power cords.
Get a great power cord for the powerplant and never visiting this forum to check other threads will be my sincere advice (any thread that has posts from Luca, Al, Paul, and me for sure).
As I understand it, Donald, he doesnât have a power plant yet. He wants to buy one first, then a power cable and a fuse. Or he chooses a different route and skips a power plant, depending on his local situation and his demands and goals. If cost is an issue, perhaps a Puritan would be a good solution.
Oh boy, that reminded me on how I started digging the rabbit holesđ¤
Oh, didnât I have a P15 on sale nowđ
The beginning is a wall socket.
Equipment: BHK 250 Amp, Innuous Streamer, DSD DAC Mk1, Sony Blu Ray, LG OLED - all within last year so no extra $ for PS 15 (20 better?) just yet.
The power supply is very important. Power cords make a difference. Which cables and power strip are you currently using? A decent power strip with cable. Maybe a Puritan PSM 156 is also an option.
No power strip currently, Music Chord Pro ES for my amp.
yup⌠am hoping still on sale when money is saved
It matters, but matters far less than the ones connecting your equipment. What I find are essential to the power cord feeding the Power Plant are proper shielding and heavy gauge. Most shielded power cables are improperly built so you want to be careful. The right way to build them is to tie only one end of the shield to the mains ground, that end being the male end. Most decent high-end power cables do that. Most commercial power cables do not.
For gauge I wouldnât want to see anything less than 12 gauge and it should be fair stiff (meaning the majority of its conductors are solid core).
Why does it matter? The regenerators work hard and demand a lot from the wall in order to do their work. Remember, a Power Plant regulates and rebuilds the AC power. To do that it places demands on the incoming power, demands that result is increased line noise and big gulps of current. If you donât pay attention to the cable youâre in risk of spewing noise and being stingy with the Power Plantâs needs.
How I wish power cords didnât matter! Unfortunately Iâm a believer.
I BELIEVE! (As Al suggested).
Iâm using PS Audio AC-12 throughout my main system to and from P15. I canât afford better, and I confess I have long enjoyed them.
The best way to connect the P20 is three separate runs of Rebar, or welding rod. Make sure they cannot come in contact with each other. At least not very often.
I had a PS Audio AC-12 feeding my P15 Power Plant and it worked out rather nicely IME. A used 2.0 meter AC-12 may be found for between $300-$400. An easy budget recommendation when purchased used. Be aware that the market has more than a few conterfiet AC-12s, so one must be diligent when buying used. I upgraded to a Shunyata Sigma V2, and significant improvement, at a price. The P15, AC-12, and Shunyata Sigma are now gone. The P15 replaced by a Gryphon Power Zone 3.10. The Sigma has been replaced by a lower end Shunyata 20 amp power cord until I decide between the Audience FrontRow HP PC or AQ Dragon HC PC. Have heard the Dragon, wonderful cable, but am leaning towards the FrontRow at the moment. Regarding AQ Dragon, purchasing used requires due diligence as well due to counterfeits on the used market.
A Stealth PC would be nice, but is significantly out of my price range.
I upgraded the power cord to my P20 two times and I loved the results.
Try demos, I understand many may be available,
