Power Plant Premier has high distortion and fans not working

Hi Dirk,

We tried the wired-in Cap with a 220uF (only one on hand), same problem I’m afraid - the death click!

There appears to be 55v across the Cap

Input THD is fairly stable at 2.4-2.5 with the output swinging from 2.6-3.4

Any other ideas please?
Thanks again
Andy

Hi Andy.

55 Volt at C5 sounds fairly high. I only have an excerpt of the schematics. There are no AC voltages mentioned before the rectifier diodes D5/6 in the drawing, as you see can below. But you can measure TP12. If there are 5 Volts, then U6 is working properly and you do have a different issue with your Premier.

But you can also measure the other supply voltages:
TP5 → -25 Volt
TP4 → +25 Volt
TP3 → -12 Volt
TP2 → +12 Volt
Let’s see what that values are…

Many thanks Dirk, sorry for the delay in response, I’ve been away

I’ll fire it up and see what I find…

Hello friends! I have got Premier for repair today, but there is no schematics in SM. Can anybody help me to get schematics? thank you from Ukraine, good friends!

Hola James
I am an electronic engineer please send me if you can some schematics or notes of a
POWER PLANT PREMIER

Im in Spain and Service all récord consoles and profesional audio
Thanks in advance

Good luck with the repair, Roly.

Thanks friend sorry about my poor english
I found two ceramic 5 watts resistors blowed
The output transistors are fine
When replaced the .12 ohms resistors the display works
At the time i pressed the ‘MODE’ switch
The diferencial switch of my workbench go out
Please help me if you can
Thanks in advance

Ouch! Roly welcome to the forum and good luck getting your unit up and running.

Hi all
I have just repared the unit
The problem was the 47uF capacitor and the two big 4.7uF x 350 vca
Both old capacitors were very bad in capacitance but worst in ESR
I have replaced both with new ones and the famous 47uF after the 78L05 (i think its too little for the application)
Good news
All works fine
Thanks for all
Tomorrow i will reassemble the unit
Ir works fine with a 1 of POWER factor ( Thats really impressed me Jajaja ) and with the little potentiometer change the output
Sorry if its not a good description
I do my best yo share
Thanks to all brothers

Excellent news!

Well done

So it lives to fight another bunch of days!!!

Way to go

Hi all
When i reassembled the problem returns

Hi friends
After 8 hours of hard work finally found the problem
In my 48 years of electrónics never seen that
The unit works fine but many times goes out making the workbench differential switch goes out
The first think was (as i found later) a ground fault
The POWER brigde rectifier goes to ground (chasis transistor heatsinks) but not as a shortcircuit
The TB356 35A 600v bridge goes aleatory (sorry my poor english) to ground
At first i dude about all capacitors
But was the bridge
I hope this will be helpful for someone
Changed r40 and the 47uF and the two 5 watts.12 resistors
Thats all
Many Thanks

Thank you for the follow up. This may help others.

So Roly your Power Pkant is back up and running again?

Best wishes

Does anyone have an schematic for this device. I got it with strange “improvements” and dead NPN power transistors. I need to fix it.
Thx.
