Just got a new Stellar Power Plant 3. If I put it in idle it cuts power to all the devices plugged in. I need those devices to be in idle, so I have to leave the PP3 on all the time. What’s the reasoning for cutting power to devices when in idle?
I have 5 devices plugged into my P3, all on regenerated power. FM tuner i turn on/off as needed from its power switch. Stella Gain Cell DAC/Pre that I put into standby and it is linked by trigger cables to my 2 M700 Power amps. My PW SACD Transport is also controlled by the front standby button. Not perfect but it works for me, and is the least problematic of the alternatives.
I have a more modest system and this is fine for my turntable which is never on standby. But my integrated amp and SACD player always are. In my main system my PS-Audio transport and DAC are always in standby, so the Stellar PP3 wouldn’t work for them either. I guess this is fine for it to never be in standby/idle, so why have it?
I can put the P3 in standby mode, and then when I turn it on, it fires up all the others, except for the Tuner, which is OK, but I do wonder about the power surge. Alternatively, I can leave it all on.
The sonic improvement with the P3 are more than worth any and all changes in habit it forces on me.
My concern is if I don’t keep the amp and player in standby then they take awhile to warm up. Also, doesn’t a shutdown have to be sequential? Like, if I power off the PS-Audio DAC and transport it first has to be in standby. To just cut power when in standby eliminates the power switches on the back perhaps unsafely?
