problem with PWT reading discs

Elk said I have not had a problem.

I suggest installing a previous version. Reinstalling the new, and turn off and back on. Perhaps it did not load completely properly.

Happens once every few days. Reading just stops. Most times after going through the disc removal procedure, I’ve found that wiping down the disc with my eyeglass cloth and trying it again will usually work. Very finicky, though.

Have you read the rest of the thread, and tried cleaning the lens and the rest of the drive?

Very strange behavior by my PWT.

There are a few (3 - 4) CD discs that just won’t play (reading doesn’t complete and it’s hard to get the disc out).

Since these discs are favs and have been played a lot over the years, maybe the disc is bad…so I got new copies.

PWT won’t play the new copies of the discs it couldn’t play prior either.

Seems like with a dirty lens or drive then I would see this behavior on many more discs, but I don’t. Just on 3 or 4.

Any thoughts?

I’m beginning to think I need to send the unit in for repair, but I wanted to poll the community’s collective intelligence before I went that route.

Thanks!

Hi,
I have the same issue, did you ever figured out the cause and what is the fix?
Thanks

That a few discs don’t play but everything else does? Is there anything in common between these discs? Are they CD-Rs? Do they have very long playtimes? Are they hybrid SACDs or dual discs?

I was told by someone at PS Audio that my unit is an “older” one and likely needs the disc drive (as well as the output board) replaced. At the time, about 2 - 3 years ago, the cost was $250 I think. Or, they could give me a credit/trade in on a new model.

I never did get the unit fixed as I’ve ripped all my CDs and play them from the aif files; FWIW, the PWT does sound better than the same files streamed through a player.

Like yours, my PWT wouldn’t even play new copies of the problematic disks.

…FWIW, in my system the same file ripped by and streamed through the Melco>usb>matrix>hdmi does sound better than spinned with
the PWT
