Problems with PMG 512 dac?

What’s left with people having issues? Screen issues? I see people keep saying waiting to buy for them to be fixed. I am not aware of if anything being followed here. Am I wrong? Maybe Jplay and or screen issues?

If there are remaining issues, at least as far as I can tell with my use, they aren’t noticeable except for the fact that I can’t read the fine print on the display from my listening chair. That isn’t something that’s been acknowledged as a problem by PS Audio, though, since that’s working as documented. Maybe I’ve just learned to avoid any issues that I find frustrating, or I don’t use any features that are noticeably broken.

I am not a Roon user, so perhaps there are remaining issues for those that are.

Hi Flenser/Chris, are you a new purchaser of the 512 dac with no firmware upgrades needed? I’m not a Roon subscriber either and want a up to date 512 dac with no issues. I have no problem reading the display on my PMG PRE from my listening chair.

I’ve owned a 512 since the end of October 2025. The UPnP streamer software was maddeningly flaky at that time, as any attempt to play a DSF file broke the streamer firmware in various, uh, interesting ways and necessitated a power-cycle of the DAC. That issue remained for far too long, but since the latest streamer firmware updates from PSA’s new programmer, UPnP now works well. Also, following the last DAC firmware update (2.8.2), I haven’t encountered any weird display behavior, though I believe others have. Qobuz Connect, the only other music source I routinely use, continues to work well for me.

The readability issue with the 512 is that both the input name and PCM/DSD frequency/quantization rates are squintingly small. The volume is easy to read, though.

For Roon (or Q. control) users, are there any issues playing files and streaming? I seem to remember there were some gaping and displaying issues also. Are these all solved?

none of the previously mentioned issues are cleared up on my PMG DAC, these include:

qobuz connect not seeing the PMG DAC on my phone unless i run the startup after turning the streamer on and off and then only until i put the DAC in standby mode (not turn it off completely from the back) - often have to redo the whole process too find it = needs a complete shutdown

endless spin (USB, I2S etc) upon turning on the unit (from standby or after complete shutdown) - have to do factory reset to get back to functioning

USB (my streamer) input loses sample Rate Display if switching between inputs have to power down and power up from back to get it back, and only stays if I don’t switch or use Optical (which is my TV audio input)

Strange geometric shapes covering random parts of the display

remote stops functioning to change volume or switch inputs but off and on buttons function

I do have the latest firmware.

Zero room issues now that it’s certified.

Yours seems to be in need of a replacement

i hope they can fix it remotely  with a software update… am pretty far from colorado

Much the same but can not Roon connect correctly at all and no display issues remain. Support silent to my request all last week.

PSA was closed last week.

Thank you for reaching out. PS Audio is currently closed for the holidays until January 5, 2026. We will get back to you as soon as possible. We wish you a great holiday season from PS Audio!

Zero issues here, except the *&^% remote control on mine is picky as to where the remote is pointed. My understanding is that this has been fixed since I bought mine. But why was such a blatantly obvious problem not corrected before units were sold to us? Sloppy, inexcusable. Sorry, but this is a black mark against PSAudio.

The remote for PMG SACD T. works fine, but it has a narrower angle than older remote for PST for sure.

Won’t PSA pay shipping both ways and fix the antenna location on your DAC? I’d sure hope so. It would be a real pain in the keister, but afterwards you wouldn’t have to be frustrated when you just want to relax.

There should be no need to even accurately point the remote since it broadcasts its commands to the DAC via omnidirectional, low-frequency radio rather than infrared. I have a newer DAC with an externally located antenna, and I can stand up, turn my back to the DAC, walk ten feet, point the remote at the opposite end of my house, and it still works.

I just tested my remote for PMG SACD T. and you’re right! I must did it wrong earlier somehow. It works even when the remote is pointing away.

Interestingly, the new remote can control both PMG SACD T and DS Mk2, but with Mk2 I need to point it to the unit, where PMG I can point it away. Too bad the old remote doesn’t work with PMG, I really like the open/close button since I’m so used to using it on PST.

Yeah, all older-generation PSA gear uses infrared signaling and requires the unobstructed pointing we’re all used to.

I haven’t checked if PSA will pay shipping for the repair. You’re right though, they probably will. I’m in the middle of breaking in some new cables, etc. and am really not enthusiastic about interrupting the process because of this issue. But it is probably the best choice I have.

After having had no issues for some time but having only streamed via Qobuz Connect, I wanted to play some stuff from my UPnP server. JPlay on both my iPhone and my iPad could no longer find the 512 on the network, though Qobuz still could. I tried all the usual fixes to no avail, penultimately resorting to having the streamer forget my Wi-Fi SSID so I could re-add it, but that also failed when the 512’s start-up Wi-Fi network wouldn’t hold a connection to my iPhone. The ultimate resort—a factory reset—finally allowed me to configure and connect my Wi-Fi again AND allowed JPlay to find the 512 on the network.

Apparently, there’s still more work to be done on the streamer software. To quote Kevin Kline’s character from A Fish Called Wanda—“DISAPPOINTED”.
